The Ford Maverick remains as popular as ever, which prompted FoMoCo to close order banks for the 2023 model year mere days after they first opened last week. The Blue Oval still has a large backlog of orders to fill from the 2022 model year, and has also faced tremendous demand from new customers looking to purchase the compact pickup. Regardless, the popular model will introduce a few new options for the new model year- including one big one for the the 2023 Ford Maverick Lariat equipped with the turbocharged Ford 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost, which will now only be available in all-wheel drive configuration, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority.

For the 2022 model year, the highest-trim version of the compact pickup came standard in front-wheel drive configuration, but the 2023 Ford Maverick Lariat EcoBoost is now only available with all-wheel drive. This means that only hybrid customers will be able to spec the Lariat trim with front-wheel drive, which is the only choice in that particular configuration, too. This change means that every current Ford vehicle powered by the 2.0L EcoBoost – including the Maverick, Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Escape, and Ford Edge – are all offered with standard all-wheel drive in conjunction with that powerplant, though this list doesn’t include any Lincoln models.

In addition to these changes, the 2023 Ford Maverick has also received price increases across the board, though a private offer for carryover order holders will more than offset those additional costs and the EcoBoost powerplant is now a no-cost option. Additionally, the XLT Luxury Package has dropped several features that were previously available for 2022, as Ford Authority reported yesterday.

Both the Tremor Off-Road Package and Black Appearance Package are new for the 2023 model year, while XL trim models are gaining standard cruise control, as Ford Authorityreported last week. The pair of new packages are supply constrained, however, along with a host of other features and options. Regardless, in addition to a delay in order banks opening up, 2023 Maverick production was also pushed back several weeks recently and is currently scheduled to begin at the Hermosillo Assembly plant in Mexico on November 14th, 2022.

The Blue Oval still has a large backlog of orders to fill from the 2022 model year, and has also faced tremendous demand from new customers looking to purchase the compact pickup, to boot. Regardless, the popular model will introduce a few new options for the new model year, though the 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Luxury Package is also dropping several features that were previously available for 2022, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority.

The 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Luxury Package is dropping the remote start system, bed tie-down locking rails, and drop-in bedliner. Additionally, the leather-wrapped heated steering wheel present in the package is now a soft vinyl-wrapped heated steering wheel. On the flip side, these deleted features are now free-standing options for the the XLT-trimmed pickup, so they’re still available for customers that want them. All of this means that for 2023, the XLT Luxury Package includes the following features and equipment:
  • Eight-way power driver and six-way manual passenger seats
  • 400W inverter with a rear console USB port
  • Full-size spare for models equipped with the hybrid powerplant
  • Heated side mirrors with body-color skull caps
  • Heated seats
  • Soft vinyl-wrapped heated steering wheel
  • LED box lighting
  • Trailer hitch receiver with a four-pin connector
  • Windshield wiper de-icer

When the Ford Maverick debuted in 2021, Americans fell in love with the truck they never knew they needed.

Now Ford is making its smallest truck smarter to match the capability, spaciousness, and versatility that made Maverick the surprise hit of the decade so far. And of course, Maverick still has the lowest starting price of any pickup in America.

Handling challenging terrain and inclement weather gets easier for Maverick Hybrid customers with an all-wheel drive option new for 2025 that now has an optional package doubling towing capacity. Maverick customers can leave their smartphone cords at home thanks to new wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ cast on a larger, 13.2-inch touchscreen, and can tow like a pro regardless of skill level with new towing technologies coming in early 2025.

These upgrades and more were requests from owners, the most loyal in the midsize truck segment, who continue to choose Maverick for its versatility, Built Ford Tough capability and value.

These characteristics are drawing customers from not just other truck brands, but other segments, like small cars and small SUVs; 60 percent of Maverick customers trade in vehicles from other brands.

These new-to-Ford and new-to-truck customers are impressed by Maverick's helpful features like the FLEXBED storage solution, or the Ford Integrated Tether System, which allows for 3D print custom parts like charging cord wraps, console dividers, and custom cupholders.

These customers also don't have to choose between versatility and efficiency, especially if they choose Maverick Hybrid. It has a targeted EPA-estimated 42 miles per gallon in the city and 500 miles of range with the standard hybrid front-wheel drive model, and a targeted EPA-estimated 40 miles per gallon in the city with the hybrid all-wheel drive model.

Built Ford Tough Capability and Versatility

The biggest update - and the No. 1 request of owners - is the addition of an all-wheel drive hybrid model. It's available on XL, XLT, and Lariat trims.

The hybrid all-wheel-drive model delivers traction over various road and trail conditions and in all types of weather. Customers who select the hybrid all-wheel drive model can tow small campers, personal watercraft, and utility trailers thanks to the available 4K Tow Package.

Maximum payload capacity checks in at 1,500 pounds and the Maverick FLEXBED helps customers better organize their payload. Pockets molded into the sidewalls allow cut pieces of 2x4 to section off the bed to help prevent cargo and gear from sliding around. Dividers in the top pockets create two-tier loading, great for bags of mulch on the bottom and landscape timbers on top. And the bed, coupled with the multi-position tailgate, is large enough to fit up to 18 full sheets of half inch 4-by-8-foot plywood.

The multi-position tailgate can also be positioned flat to haul long cargo such 2x4s or a couch or secured in the middle position to carry a mountain bike with a place to rest the rear wheel, with a bed extender available through Ford Accessories for greater cargo security.

Accessing power to plug in gear like air compressors and battery chargers for power tools is easy with the 110V/400W outlet in the bed (and there's also one in the cab). DIYers can add their own features like 12V outlets or lighting with pre-wired 12V connections.

New Tech to Save Time, Reduce Clutter and Anxiety

Maverick now features SYNC 4 that is clearly presented on the largest standard touchscreen in its class, a 13.2-inch display that replaces the previous 8-inch screen. It is paired with the 8-inch digital instrument cluster visible above the steering wheel. Owners can leave their phone cords at home with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ and can stay connected and informed through SYNC® 4 with Enhanced Voice Recognition and connected navigation. A new built-in 5G modem gives Maverick the latest wireless tech and allows Maverick to receive software updates to keep vehicle systems up to date.

The SYNC 4 system is also a portal to other helpful technologies.

Customers use Maverick in urban environments with tight corners and small parking spaces. Maneuvering is straightforward with the 360-Degree Camera, new for 2025 and a customer favorite first developed for F-Series. It provides a split-view display of what's directly in front of or behind the vehicle, along with cross-traffic views.

Available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist helps take the frustration out of hitching a trailer. It works by using the rear camera and corner radars to align the hitch with the trailer coupler while simultaneously controlling the truck's speed, steering, and braking to stop at just the right place.

Once hitched, Pro Trailer Backup Assist makes backing up a trailer as easy as turning a knob to indicate which direction the trailer should go while reversing into position.

Both technologies are important additions because almost half of Maverick owners tow, even those who trade in their small cars and small SUVs. Both Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist are new standard features on the Lariat and Tremor trims.

Peace of mind is standard for drivers with the suite of Ford Co-Pilot360 technology. For 2025, every Maverick is equipped with standard Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping Aid, a Rear View Camera and Auto LED High-Beam Headlamps.

Lariat and Tremor are equipped with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition. Customers love this feature because it makes driving easier.

Freshened Appearance, Inside and Out

Dark appearance LED headlamps, the front bumper, and the grille are all redesigned and standard for a fresh look. Higher trims feature LED projector headlamps with LED signature accent lighting to set those vehicles apart with a more premium appearance. Grilles now vary across trim levels to give each its own unique appearance.

The new 19-inch wheels on the Lariat trim provide added sophistication for that trim.

Inside, the trim differentiation continues with new trim colors and materials across the door, instrument panel, console, and seats. Customers asked for new interior color accent choices, so our Aspen Gray/Navy Pier theme trim on XLT now comes with Grabber Blue accents. Lariat adds a Smoke Truffle theme with bronze accents.

There's also a new Black Package featuring its own unique grille, black roof, black Ford badges, and 19-inch gloss black wheels.

Starting MSRP for 2025 is $26,295, plus $1,595 for destination and delivery, for the standard hybrid front wheel drive model. The new Maverick and Maverick Hybrid are available to order, with deliveries expected to begin in late 2024.

Some nice improvements, but that front end is much worse, IMO.

Yeah are those orange reflectors, and not bulbs? Way too old school. That green paint is nice, though.

I mostly meant the shape of the headlights. Prefer the prior ones.
Hard to tell if those are just reflectors or sidemarkers, I'd guess on the latter

In the headlights? Those are bulbs for sure. Not sure why this isn't LED like the rest of the assembly, seems like a pretty low bar to get over for cost benefit.

In the bumper looks like a reflector and side marker in one.

I'm glad this is as successful as it is. The majority of F150 owners don't need anything more than a Maverick for their daily use lol. Adding the AWD to the hybrid only makes it better.

I'd daily a hybrid, would do 90% of the truck stuff I'd need it for & have the Expedition if I need to tow

Honestly this thing would probably tow most things anyway. 4k lb tow rating is enough to pull almost every boat and utility trailer out there.

Yeah, but the thought of towing with a CVT doesn't sound appealing.

My parents' Outback XT has a 3500lb tow rating, but I wouldn't want to tow with it.
It has an aftermarket hitch & the most it's done is move his utility trailer with his Mule across his yard [I had his truck at the time]
Also, at least for the OB, it was a pain to hitch up, the RAB kept intervening & stopping the car

Our Ascent has a CVT and is rated to tow 5k lbs. We've towed with it a handful of times and works just fine.

Just because something is a CVT doesn't mean it's not designed to do something it's rated to do.

Also, you can disable the RAB with one button on the screen that's always shown when the backup cam feed is live...

Inspired by the lowered truck era that lasted from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s and Maverick customers already personalizing their trucks for performance, the Maverick Lobo is a new canvas for modern street truck builds.

Lobo is the street-performance version of Maverick, giving customers a new, differentiated model with the same Maverick value and versatility. It joins the lineup that includes the off-road capable Maverick Tremor and the efficient Maverick Hybrid.

When Maverick designer Josh Blundo joined Ford in 2019, he saw a clay model of the Maverick and noticed its potential. He began modifying the truck as if it was his own: a widebody, wings, front splitter, and wheels.

His idea inspired a special build by Tucci Hot Rods that drew praise at the 2021 Special Equipment Manufacturers Association trade show. Blundo and the team later got the green light and began designing Lobo.

At the same time, engineers like Keith Daugherty began tweaking the springs and suspension and testing components from other Ford performance-oriented vehicles to help create an authentic on-road performance truck.

Engineered for On-Road Performance

The result of that collaboration is the Maverick Lobo with a lowered ride height and an on-road tuned suspension with tuned shocks and a 2-liter EcoBoost engine tested to Built Ford Tough standards and backed by a factory warranty.

Ford Maverick Lobo ride height is a half-inch lower in the front and 1.12 inches lower in the rear compared to Maverick, and roof height is 0.8 inches lower.

Tuned steering makes Maverick Lobo drive more like a performance car, with torque vectoring through a twin-clutch rear drive unit and bigger, enhanced brakes with dual-piston front brake calipers used on the Focus ST sold in Europe. Inspired by drifting and autocross, there's also a new Lobo drive mode, which improves cornering performance, grip, and stability, helping to minimize understeer.

Lobo mode is meant only for closed courses because it activates the truck's torque while reducing stability control intervention. (Think about Lobo mode as the Maverick equivalent to Mustang track mode.)

And to ensure Lobo is ready to handle demanding performance driving, we also upgraded the cooling system. It utilizes the larger radiator and fan from Maverick's 4K towing package and a transmission oil cooler.

Street Truck Design

Ford Maverick Lobo maintains Maverick aesthetics in a slightly different interpretation. Unique front style, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings contrast with a black-painted roof and 19-inch black wheels.

The interior features inspiration from street art that designer Kristen Keenan observed in her travels and experiences she gained in designing athletic shoes.

There's Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, a graffiti-inspired overprint on the seats as a nod to street culture, and the Lobo name embossed into the black driver and passenger seats.

This color combination is a nod to current streetwear trends, where multiple colors are often used together in a way that brings harmony without matching perfectly.

To keep it easy for customers to select their Maverick Lobo canvas and get started with their own personalization, the truck comes in two configurations: standard and high.

Purposeful Technology

Standard configuration comes with everything described above, while high configuration adds other comforts like heated steering wheel and seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver-assist technologies, a 360-degree camera, spray-in bedliner, moon roof, and, beginning early in 2025, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.

Pro Trailer Hitch Assist helps take the frustration out of hitching a trailer.
