Crash test!

Insurance Institute of Highway Safety will test both 04 TL and TSX very soon! We have delivered 2 Deep Green Pearl TLs and 2 Carbon Gray TSXs to Rugersville, VA for the test this afternoon. One of my dealer representatives will be at the test and get the first hand result. Test will include both side and frontal impacts. They will also have the 5 MPH bumper test. I will keep you guys posted for 1st hand info.

Thanks for the first hand update!

Also saw the other day at the NHTSA site that the 04 TL is schedualed to under go the full battery of 5 star tests along with the TSX.

Not sure of timming, could be next summer, as they post early what they expect to test.

Here is the link to the NCAP tests (NHTSA):

What? They're crunching up 2 perfectly good CG TSXs when they are in such high demand. Are they crazy?? Why don't they crash some blue or red ones? Those colours are probably in less demand. BTW...I don't mean to discriminate agains certain colours. All TSXs are great cars no matter what colour. But the red and blue just seem less common.

I'm sorry! Those are the colors IIHS specifically requested. I took a good tour in the facility and it was awesome! I had a chance to see some really badly crashed vehicles including the Montana and couple suzuki new sedans. They are greatly not recommended by the Institute. I should have brought a camera with me! MY bad!

BTW, words from the Institute official saying that Honda and Toyota are the top 2 manufacturer now in terms of vehicle safety rating.

yes, but only lately (last two years or so).

Did they give you any idea of when the test will be run?

Thanks again for the info

They said that they usually perform test 1 week after they received the vehicles. I'm not sure about the holiday season though. It may take till the end of this month or even the beginning of January.

The picture of the Montana is brutal - you could easily lose your legs in an offset collision in one of those. I urged my friend to check the pic out before he bought one for his family (GM family doscount). Fortunately, they delivered him a POS that was totally undrivable, so after giving them 1 change to fix the suspension (which they failed), his insurer cancelled his policy, GM had to give his money back (very, very reluctantly), and he bought a Sienna. They love th Sienna so much they just traded their old Buick in for a Camry (probably has the same cushy ride).

I saw a tragic pic of a Civic hatchback that hit a cop car t-bone in Vanacouver at 100mph. The cop was killed, the kid in the civic (which was totaled back to but not including the passenger compartment) walked away only to be arrested. That car was designed to hit a wall at 60mph from the looks of it.

Sorry! I spelled it wrong. It's Ruckersville, VA. It is right off Route 29 north of Charlottesville.

Exclamation "All Around 5 Star Cars"

Shouldn't Honda and Acura produce only all around 5 star crash tested vehicles! Wouldn't that just plain crush the compitition?

Is it that expensive to put in some extra metal here and there for a 5 star all around ranking? Any engineers out there?

I just think that marketing power of such a statement would really make for some stand out "brand recognition" plus help keep our arms and legs attached.

Isn't that strange - I would have thought if they needed to add those points of reference markings for the crash photography, that they would use white cars.

ccheung.....

FYI....my TSX was hit while i was stoped at a stop light 4 weeks ago, the guy that hit me was going 70mph and i was at 0. he hit me from the rear, and i went into the car in front of me, and she in-turn went into the car in front of her. NONE OF MY 8 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND MY SEATBELT BROKE! Allthough, if i wasnt wearing my seatbelt i would have gone through the windsheild, as my head did hit the glass. the car is pretty much totalled, im still waiting on the final word. after i know what is going on with it, i will be contacting acura to ask why the airbags did not deploy.

I do not know who you work for, but if you are around the testing or can post a link to the report, i would be in your debt! i am curious to see if it was just my car, or if acura has a MAJOR PROBLEM ON THERE HANDS WITH DEFECTIVE AIR-BAGS SENSORS.

I would have post'd this sooner, but this is the first time i have seen this thread.

Please keep me (us, the tsx community) informed.

Thank You

airbags don't go off if you're not in motion (above 0 miles an hour).

There was nothing wrong with your car, except for the fact that the seatbelt broke.

I don't think there is any airbag sensor at the rear end of the vehicle.

It usually take more than 30 MPH to set off the airbags

I would expect that the guy who hit him from behind at 70mph set him in motion before his car hit the car in front of him. I also am curious as to why the airbag didn't deploy.

Did you post this somewhere on the site? I don't remember hearing your story. I hope everything turns out ok for you and you were ok; looks as if you survived it.

The seat belt probably shouldn't have torn. Your insurance company will probably speak to Acura about that if they have to pay for medical stuff that shouldn't have happened.

Why was the guy going 70?

airbags are only effective in a certain range of speed/force impacting the car. they are ineffective at low speed, and they are also ineffective at higher speeds (altho i cant tell you the exact speed they stop working at)
