if Hennessey or LPE tuned a Vette like this, it would probably cost $150k+

Post Corvette ZR1 police car!

From Top Gear...

The GM blog is, for the most part, a somewhat stolid collection of press releases and technical explanations with long words. Hardly deckchair reading, in other words.

But occasionally something slips through the net. Like this, a Corvette ZR1 police car courtesy of none other than GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz.

We've already brought you all the details on the fastest Corvette ever, but it seems the man they call Maximum Bob fancied turning the ZR1 into a jam sandwich.

He doesn't give us much information on how. Or why. In fact, all he says is, 'Go ahead... make their day. Just try and outrun them!'

This from a man fronting a company with an annual turnover of 200 billion dollars. Put the colouring pencils down, Bob.

Corvette C6 Competition edition for Europe...

From WCF...

As from April a new cyclone is up for sale at the nearest European Corvette dealer. The Corvette Competition, which pays loose homage to the C6 race car, will be in full show for those wanting something a little out of the ordinary. Further, very few extras are available so as to limit the vehicle’s mass. Hoisting its 19-inch wheels (18-inch at the front) forward is that 6.2-litre V8 engine that sits in quite well with a 6-speed gearbox. Thus the rear spoiler, which has been lent by the Z06, came into play to stop Corvette from becoming a flying machine. The five double-spoke alloys are coloured Competition grey.

Similarities with the race car are the honeycomb air scoops on the grille as well as those between the mean pipes at the rear. Of course such special editions don’t come mass-produced, so this will also be available only in limited numbers. Strangely the car is meant to celebrate the start of the American Le Mans Series, yet Europe is getting it.

Damn. 205mph. That was the most stable ive ever seen a vette at speeds any where near that. GM musta did some good aero tweaks on it to make it that stable.

Post ZR1 information...

From Leftlanenews...

If you're bummed you didn't get your order in for the 2008 Nissan GT-R, you still have another chance to grab another supercar in the form of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. But you better act fast. Just as the GT-R was limited to a finite number of examples worldwide, General Motors will only produce 2,000 ZR1s annually for the global market.

It remains unclear home many of those ZR1s will be staying in the U.S. — we expect the majority of them — but the Bow Tie division's supercar should begin rolling off the assembly line floor this summer.

Tadge Juechter, the Corvette ZR1's chief engineer, revealed this tidbit about the ZR1, as well as a couple of other factoids in a recent live chat on GMnext.com.

Juechter also circled around the ZR1's fuel economy, but never gave any exact figures. However, Juechter still says that the ZR1 will be the most fuel-efficient 600 horsepower car on the market and that he expects EPA ratings to be somewhat less than a Z06. He also added that ZR1 buyers should be prepared to pay a small gas-guzzler tax.

No official word yet on the car's pricing, but it's widely believed the ZR1's price will hover around $100,000. Juechter says GM is "strongly encouraging dealers to charge MSRP," but price gouging will likely push the ZR1's price tag well north of $100,000.

And ZR1 owners need not worry — Juechter says that the ZR1's unique features, such as the car's carbon-ceramic brakes and Michelin tires, will not be available on lesser 'Vettes' option lists.

On the development side of the car, Juechter says that all-wheel drive was never considered for the ZR1 as it "would have added too much mass." He noted that the car's power to weight ratio is one of the factors that makes it perform as well as it does.

As for a C7 version of the ZR1, nothing is set in stone. GM engineers will definitely consider the performance model, but with CAFE regulations among other factors, it's impossible to guarantee.

All the ZR1's mysteries should be solved soon, though, as pricing and EPA ratings are expected to be released within the next two months.

Chevrolet reveals pricing and performance numbers for 2009 Corvette ZR1

Chevrolet reveals pricing and performance numbers for 2009 Corvette ZR1

Chevrolet has already revealed horsepower and torque figures for its mighty Corvette ZR1 supercar, and now we know what those performance numbers are capable of. The new ZR1 is officially the fastest production Corvette ever, capable of reaching a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). Its 0-62mph (0-100km/h) time is a full 0.3 seconds quicker than the already potent Z06, and the quarter mile is passed in just 11.3 seconds at 131mph (210km/h).

If this sounds exciting to you, be prepared to pay at least $103,300 (including an $850 destination charge) for the privilege of owning the ZR1. There’s also a $1,700 gas guzzler tax and a $10,000 options package. Chrome wheels are an additional $2,000.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy rating is 14mpg (16.8) in the city and 20mpg (11.7L/100km) on the highway.

This and the new Camaro will die because of the economic times. Why do you think they killed the Camero in the first place? GM is not as well off before. They’ll will need to sell high volume cars for some time until they get back on they’re feet. Meaning eliminating low volume cars. They done it before and they’ll do it again.

But how long will that last? A year, 2 maybe. Once the novelty wears off

I hope its a roaring success but I seriously doubt it will last.

The mustang is still kickin'... shouldnt the two (v6 models) be cross-shopped quite often?

Mystery Transformers Model is a New Corvette Concept?

From WCF...

Last week we showed you a very blurry picture of a mystery supercar on the set of the new Transformers movie, now a new picture has surfaced of the model giving us a much better idea of what it might be. Lets first state that despite the better quality of the shot there are no confirmations this is actually correct, but rumours state we are looking at a new Corvette Concept and possibly a design preview for the next generation scheduled to be launched in 2011.

The model sports a rounded body style we normally associate with the extravagant designs seen on concept models, clearly the headlights are too small for a production vehicle and that pointy nose looks reminiscent of the fighter jet styling of the Lamborghini Reventon.

It is still close to a year before the second instalment of the Transformers movie series is released, so we may need a bit patience before the true identity of the model is fully revealed.
