Putting one of BMW's newest X6 "Sport Activity Vehicles" (aka "SAV") in your driveway will cost you at least $53,275. That's the announced base price for the 300-hp X6 xDrive35i with its twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder (yep, that's the same powerplant shared with the 535i, 335i, and the 135i). If you want to pony-up to the 400-hp xDrive50i, powered by a new twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, that will set you back another ten large as its base price is $63,775. All the details are available in the press release after the jump.

I just don't get this thing.
It's like a better quality AMC Eagle.
The sloping back removes a lot of the utility so what is the point? And it's not like people go mudding in a crossover anyway.
I have never understood it and I guess I never will.

BMW X6 production run sold out for 2008
The BMW X6 is undoubtedly a controversial vehicle. Many critics have labeled it an answer to a question no one asked. But, according to BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer, it's already a blockbuster success. At the company's annual general meeting, Reithofer said the first production of the X6 is already sold out.
"The new BMW X6 is best proof of the popularity of the X model range," said Reithofer. "Evidently, many customers were waiting for such a vehicle. The total 2008 production volume is already sold out." The comments were made during a speech touting the forthcoming X1, among other future vehicles.
While the X6 is "sold out" for 2008, that doesn't mean you can't still get one — it might just be hard. All the X6s are already sold to dealers, and the majority of dealers have a waiting list already. In some markets, it might be possible to find a dealer who still has an X6 available — it's just unlikely, especially in big cities.

with the BMW service center down the street I am sure I will see one soon...
Already seen a few M3 coupes, sedans, and I believe I saw a M3 convertible yesterday. It was hard to tell, but it was definitely a M3 coupe with a painted roof, I thought i saw the crease which the hardtop convertible has though...

actually they are painted if you get the sunroof option or if you get the convertible...
the CF roof is standard on the coupe, but if you get the sunroof you lose it...
but seeing as I don't think convertible is out yet, it might have been a demo/training car doing it's rounds to the local dealerships...

i didn't like it at first either, but I am starting to like it. It has a very aggressive stance for an SUV, which is what made me really like the Infiniti FX. And I think it looks great compared to the X5 and X3, which I always thought were some of the uglist SUVs on the market.
I can't imagine the visibility being very good out that back window though. But since I can't afford one, it is fine just being eye candy.

Just get a damn X5, that's all it is... minus the useful, cavernous SUV-hatch, replaced by a liftback hatch and with a 4.4 turbocharged V8 option as a marketing tool. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the way it looks.... but IMO it mainly appeals to the niche of the style-over-substance crossover crowd. It just reminds me of most people who buy SUVs and don't get any real use out of them. It has grown on me a lot but there is no way in hell I'd ever want it, except for the engine
and AMC has always been ahead of the curve with all of their crossovers, imagine that
