It doesn't seem like such a radical idea, they make luxury cars, luxury suvs, why not a luxury minivan. At this point it could be anything though, maybe even an x7suv.

I have BBC from DishNEtwork but it does not have it. Must be a different channel. I did a search for GEAR on all channels and the only one coming up (auto related) is Fifth Gear.

BMW won't call it a minivan, but if seats 7 and has sliding doors what else can it be? They would have no problem building it in the US on the X5 platform and price it in the high 30s, which is not that much above the high end of some of the current nicer minivans.

BMW plans to build multipurpose vehicle called X6, sources say - - Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek

MUNICH, Germany -- BMW will build a multipurpose vehicle called the X6, supplier sources say.

Sources at two suppliers familiar with the project say they are being asked to provide price quotes on parts for the vehicle, according to Automotive News Europe, a sister publication to Automotive News and AutoWeek.

The sources say the X6 will be built at BMW's Spartanburg, S.C., plant.

A spokesman for BMW Manufacturing Corp. in Spartanburg did not confirm the plans.

^ Yeah, a BMW minivan just doesn't sound right. Will it be a true minivan, with sliding doors and all of that? Or is it supposed to be more of a crossover "people mover", like the R-Class?

What Acura crossover is he talking about?
Even though there's no Infiniti dealer here, I see a number of FXes on the road. I think that is what the X6 will be aiming for.

and probably the Pilot as well. IMHO, the Pilot and MDX are two of the best executed SUVs on the market and probably the only two I'd consider getting.

Jeez, Honda/Acura need better marketing. Did anyone catch what was actually written...he didn't thank Honda/Acura, or the Acura MDX, he thanked the Honda (brand) Acura (model).

But he's talking about a crossover, not an SUV. Maybe he's got his models or makers confused. He did talk about the FX before.

From Edmunds:

What is the Edmunds.com definition of a crossover vehicle?

Question
What is the Edmunds.com definition of a crossover vehicle?

Answer
A "crossover vehicle" is a vehicle that has attributes of more than one vehicle type category. Examples of "crossover vehicles" are:

Chevrolet Avalanche – SUV/Truck
Infiniti FX35 and FX45 – SUV/Car
Subaru Forester – SUV/Car
Hummer H2 SUT – SUV/Truck

Chrysler Pacifica – SUV/Car

To wit:

2005 Acura MDX Midsize SUV

Get InfoPak
Editors' Rating
8.0
Consumer Rating
8.9

MSRP: $36,900 - $43,975
City Mileage: 17 mpg Hwy Mileage: 23 mpg

Pros: Room for seven passengers or serious amounts of cargo, gutsy V6 engine, well-balanced suspension, top-rated crash test scores.
Cons: Limited off-road capability, below-average tow rating, ho-hum interior design and materials.
What Edmunds.com says: A somewhat bland but otherwise utterly capable and perfectly useful crossover SUV.

MSRP: $27,550 - $34,320
City Mileage: 17 mpg Hwy Mileage: 22 mpg

Pros: Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons: Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.
What Edmunds.com says: One of the best crossover SUVs available, the Pilot is an excellent choice for large, active families in need of versatility.

This is the FX competitor, right? Is it positioned above the X5? It's not bad. I see the continued use of the "flame surfacing" here, from Bangle.

That seems to be BMW's general direction, IMO. I do like the very latest 750iL, though.
