thats not entirely what the X6 is going to look like, these are just assumptions and the pics that are out of it on the road are just spy pics while the company tests the vehicle on road conditions...they make it look fugley so no one expects it to be a bmw...they do this with all their vehicles before they put them into production...the 645 looked hideous in the spy pics
However, bmw does kind of copy other companies, look at the e60 5 seriese tails, they look just like STI tails...

Dear BMW,
why do you make me want things I cannot yet afford and worse yet steer me towards a life of wanting beautiful things?

Spy shots!
Spy photographers managed to snap these X6 pics during hot-weather testing.
The X6's sleek lines are hidden beneath heavy camouflage.
Cargo volume is unlikely to be one of the X6's main selling points.
The heavy plastic is built up above the X6's actual sheet metal.
DEATH VALLEY, Calif. — BMW engineers inadvertently exposed the rear shape of the 2009 X6 SUV during hot-weather testing this week, and spy photographers sprung into action.
When one of its X6 prototypes became disabled on the shoulder of a desolate California road, BMW testers accidentally left the X6's rear hatch open as they sorted out the trouble. These backlit photos now reveal exactly how much of the X6's heavy rear camouflage is masking its sleek rear lines.
BMW appears to be taking form-over-function to extremes with the X6, since the arching roof line behind the B-pillar will seriously compromise second-row headroom and cargo capacity.
Built on the same platform as the BMW X5, the X6 is expected to start production at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant in 2008.
What this means to you: This sleek SUV deserves more than carpool duty

IMO it looks like BMW is trying to mimic the MB CLS (sedan that looks like a coupe) and the Subaru Legacy Outback sedan (raised sedan) mixed into one.
I don't think its that bad and I'm sure a lot of people with lots of extra money laying around will buy it.
