Recently got some seat time in a 428i xDrive. I am annoyed that only the automatic is available at this time and may end up being the only transmission option across the line. For a coupe, I would prefer a manual or at least a DCT of some fashion. Either way, for the limited space and the near $50k price tag, I think I would probably look at a CLA45 or S5 for only a few grand more well-optioned and get a lot more power.

Full details and photos are available here.

Do you know what kills this car?

This. It looks cheap as hell in person.

I see one of these every day on my commute, I have to admit, it was just OK to me in pictures, but it looks pretty good in person. I know the term is way overused, but it has a real presence to it.

C&D tested the S5 against the M435i and the S5 won it a bit of a rout.

I was rather surprised. The S5 is six years old. I don't think I'd pay $59K for one at this point. It might be really good but they started working on that car about eight years ago.

An aftermarket exhaust will be a must.

I know it will be fast and have it's own character, but the S65 V8 is pretty special in it's own way.

The sound of that N/A V8 was sweet music to the M car purist. I wonder how many of them will boycott the new M3/4

Post 2014 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Individual

Press release...

The decision in favour of a BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe expresses not only a liking of elegance, but also a high regard for a particularly aesthetic experience. BMW’s first four-door coupe in the premium midrange class is truly exceptional in its segment. With the BMW Individual model-specific product range, its uniqueness can be underscored even more intensively.

At market launch, attractive BMW Individual features are already available for both the exterior and the interior of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe that fulfill the highest demands in terms of design, choice of materials and workmanship. All options are not only perfectly aligned to the character of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, but also form the basis for a model configuration that is precisely oriented towards the customer’s personal style of driving.

Gleaming brilliance or semi-matt finish: BMW Individual paints and BMW Individual matt colours.

With exceptional brilliance, fascinating two-tone effects and intensive visual depth, the BMW Individual colours available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe guarantee a lustrous appearance. A special pigmentation ensures a complex play of colours from which, depending on light conditions and perspective, various different nuances are created. The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe comes with a choice of the BMW Individual colours Citrine Black metallic, Tansanite Blue metallic, Pyrite Brown metallic and Moonstone metallic.

BMW Individual matt colours offer further possibilities of emphasising the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe’s characteristic charisma. They can be ordered in the colours BMW Individual Frozen Brilliant White metallic, Frozen Grey metallic, Frozen Bronze metallic und Frozen Cashmere Silver metallic. The expressive, shimmering matt gloss effect created by these colours is particularly suitable for accentuating the dynamically flowing lines and the powerful surface design of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. They are produced in a special painting process applied exclusively by the BMW Group, which in addition to applying innovative technology also comprises a high degree of individual manual work. During the process, the matt look and the both visible and tangible velvet effect are created on the body surface by adding silicates to the clear lacquer.

19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design including mixed tyres contribute to the car’s stylish appearance.

Exquisite materials for a sophisticated ambience.

Handcrafted precision combined with most carefully selected materials also give the BMW Individual options featured in the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe an exclusive touch. The extended BMW Individual leather trim Merino fine-grain ensures a particularly stylish ambience. Exquisite raw materials and meticulous processing guarantee the outstanding quality of the soft, fine-grain leather surfaces for the seats, the door panels and the armrests. The extended BMW Individual leather trim is available in the colours Golden Brown, Cashmere Beige, Nutmeg, Opal White and Black. The leather-clad BMW Individual dashboard underlines the high-class, stylish appearance.

The choice of three types of BMW Individual interior trims offers the ideal prerequisites for a perfect combination with the selected leather colours. Moreover, the interior trims are characterised by exclusive, first-class raw materials and precise workmanship. They are available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe finished in BMW Individual Piano Black and in the fine-wood versions BMW Individual Plane Dark Red-Brown and Ash Grain White, each of them being complemented by an accentuating trim in Pearl Gloss Chrome. Furthermore, door sills with the BMW Individual lettering, the BMW Individual anthracite roof lining and the BMW Individual steering wheel clad with finest soft leather are also available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Individual combination: BMW Individual Composition for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

The BMW Individual Composition will also be available for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe at market launch. It ensures exclusive styling in the interior and comprises the enhanced BMW Individual leather trim Merino fine-grain, a leather-clad BMW Individual dashboard, a BMW Individual interior trim strip and the BMW Individual leather steering wheel.

All features included in the BMW Individual Composition and the BMW Individual Collection can be ordered individually and combined with all equipment lines (BMW Lines) as well as the BMW M Sport Package.

Post BMW M4 Laps The 'Ring In Under 8 Minutes

From here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...nder-8-minutes

BMW's new M4 coupe has become the latest car to score a sub-8 minute lap at the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. At the hands of Horst von Saurmer from German magazine Sport Auto, a production M4 lapped the 12.93-mile circuit in a time of 7:52.

By way of comparison, that time comfortably beats the 8:05 lap time set by the same driver (from the same magazine) in the old V-8 engined E92-generation M3, set in 2007. It's also just two seconds shy of the time von Saurmer set in a BMW M3 CSL back in 2003—a car 500 lbs lighter than the new M4. Perhaps more importantly the new M4 beats both the Audi RS 5's 7:59 lap and the outgoing Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG's 8:01.

While Nürburgring lap times are the subject of much debate due to different driving conditions, tires, drivers and track surfaces, Sport Auto's times are at least reasonably consistent—von Saurmer has set a large number of oft-quoted 'Ring lap times over the past few decades. The magazine runs 'Ring times as part of its regular test program for performance cars, also testing them at Hockenheim.

So even numbers are two doors, odd numbers are four doors, and odd numbers "GT" are coupe sedans?

It's a nice looking car but I still prefer the lines of the 3 or 4 series.

Actually GC (Gran Coupe) is the designation for the odd numbered coupe sedans. The GT designation is for part hatchback abominations that never should have made it into concept form, let alone mass production.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I guess changing the T to C made the car look better.

I guess out of habit I still want to say GT even if it's wrong.

BMW Abu Dhabi has an M4 loaded with M Performance stuff. Check out the pics here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...3139117&type=1

Some tidbits of the car from here: http://www.worldcarfans.com/11407247...rmance-goodies

BMW Abu Dhabi Motors is currently exhibiting a brand new M4 fully loaded with various M Performance items.

When a stock 2014 M4 just won't do, reaching deeper into pockets will reward customers with a bunch of M Performance goodies spicing up an already hot coupe. Seen here is such an example featuring a long list of optional equipment, starting out with the M stripes and a carbon fiber aerodynamic package including a prominent front splitter, intake grilles, trunk-mounted spoiler and side skirts.

The rear diffuser and four tailpipes (of the Akrapovic exhaust system) are also made from carbon fiber, just like the roof and exterior mirror covers. It rides on 19-inch glossy black M double-spoke alloys matched with gold-painted brake calipers. Step inside the cabin and you'll immediately notice a three-spoke Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with carbon fiber and aluminum inserts as well as a digital display showing revs and gear shifts.

There aren't any changes under the hood so this M4 Coupe packs the same TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-six motor with 431 PS (317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft). BMW is allowing clients to choose from two gearboxes, a standard six-speed manual granting a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 4.3 seconds and an optional 7-speed M DCT (with launch control) slashing 0.2s from the sprint time. Top speed is electronically-capped to 155 mph (250 km/h) but the optional M Driver's Package lifts the limiter to 174 mph (280 km/h).
Yup, IWHI.

Post 2015 BMW M4 Convertible

Press release...

The arrival of the new BMW M4 Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 9.1–8.7 l/100 km [31–32.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 213–203 g/km) sees BMW M GmbH making another alluring addition to its legendary high-performance sports car line-up. The new M4 Convertible replicates the performance figures of the new BMW M3 Sedan (fuel consumption combined: 8.8–8.3 l/100 km [32.1–34.0 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 204–194 g/km) and the new BMW M4 Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 8.8–8.3 l/100 km [32.1–34.0 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 204–194 g/km), but emphasises its stylish and distinctive appearance through its individual character and places the fascination of sporty and dynamic open-top driving at centre stage. The new model finds BMW M GmbH drawing inspiration from a long tradition: BMW’s high-performance sports car for track and road is entering its fifth generation in open-top form with this new chapter in its history headed “M4 Convertible”.

The BMW M4 Convertible shares the elegant lines of its open-top 4 Series siblings. Its design language allows it to skilfully blend a distinctive and graceful silhouette boasting finely balanced proportions when the roof is open with an exceptionally dynamic coupe line, shorn off B-pillars, with the hardtop closed. At the same time, the M4 Convertible’s styling cues – including a signature power dome for the bonnet, eye-catching exterior mirrors in twinstalk style and flared front and rear wheel arches bulging over forged lightalloy wheels with mixed tyres in 18-inch (optional 19-inch) format – all identify it clearly as a member of the BMW M3/M4 model family.

Powering the BMW M4 Convertible is the newly developed six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving character already familiar from the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe. The power unit generates maximum output of 317 kW/431 hp from its 3.0-litre displacement and serves up peak torque of 550 Newton metres (406 lb-ft) across a wide rev band. The BMW M4 Convertible therefore offers the driver not only exceptionally sporty performance attributes – the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 4.4 seconds (with the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission) – but also sufficient reserves of power to cruise along in relaxed but rapid style with the roof down.

Like the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe, the BMW M4 Convertible also displays a strict adherence to the intelligent lightweight construction principle. For example, the bonnet and front side panels are made from aluminium, as are many components of the high-performance chassis. Added to which, ultra-lightweight and – thanks to its hugely impressive rigidity – also extremely durable carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) is employed in many areas of the new M4 Convertible. The drive shaft is one example, the use of CFRP allowing it to be constructed as a single-piece unit. This makes for a significant weight saving and a reduction in rotating masses. The CFRP precision strut in the engine compartment, meanwhile, weighs only 1.5 kilograms yet offers rigidity superior to that of a comparable aluminium component. It therefore plays a key part in the car’s excellent steering response and precision.

The three-section folding metal roof of the BMW M4 Convertible has full interior lining and represents a compelling proposition with its excellent soundproofing and winter-proof construction. The roof opens at the touch of a button in under 20 seconds – while travelling at up to 18 km/h (11 mph), if required.

Complementing its already extensive standard specification, the new BMW M4 Convertible can also be ordered with a wealth of attractive options to further enhance its aesthetic appeal, dynamic prowess and comfort levels. And for that distinctive personal touch, the exclusive BMW Individual range of equipment offers the prospect of a unique driving experience. Special colours and materials can be fine-tuned to the driver’s wishes.
