They never change the design much because it sells REALLY well as is. No need to risk the sales figures by completely revamping the interior/exterior design.
I think the current still owns all the competition, even though it's been quite awhile since it first came out.

This is pretty similar to what Honda did to its Civic line. But obviously, Civic went cheap here and there and got pwned by the media and its direct competitors. It's all about how well you execute the plan, and it seems like BMW did really good job on it.
#3004
I wouldn't make the Civic analogy. Honda really dropped the ball on that one. The 3-Series design isn't bad at all. I was just analyzing it, not criticizing it.

Oooo...like this version.
Just hope the douche-meter doesn't get turned too high owning it!

F30 interior just seems better looking. It's easier on the eyes the way the navi fits into the center stack.
Design of headlights are growing on me... The more I look at them, the more I like them.
I didn't like the E90 design when it first came out, but it eventually grew on me. I'm sure the F30 will be the same.
Honda supposedly pushed back the 9th generation Civic debut to work on and improve it in light of what the competition was coming out with. I think they were sleeping during that whole time.

I don't like the way the new hood cuts straight across above the grille. The E90 blends the hood line into the grille.
I think the Navi looks like an after thought in the F30. I liked the sculpted dash with the Navi built into it

I really the new interior...FINALLY getting back to the driver oriented cock pit...I like the center tunnel also.
Exterior...sleeker, better visibility over the hood...but out to lunch on the design til I see it in person.

Those comparo pics are great! I prefer the E90's front end. It has more presence to me. I definitely like hood/headlight integration better. If they did the same "sized" front end with the new headlights with no extension to the grille, it would be perfect.

I think this would be better

The F30 looks like another winner for the 3-series.

Ill have to see it in person, but I like the E90 more. There are a few elements on the F30 that I like by themselves, but in practice they don't look good - particularly the headlights. I like them, but I dont like how they flow into the grille. The whole front end just looks oddly proportioned.

As mentioned, the 2012 BMW 3-Series is bigger than the model it replaces, with its wheelbase growing by almost two inches, now measuring 110.6 inches, and its front and rear track measuring in at 60.3 inches and 61.9 inches, up 1.46 inches and 1.85 inches respectively.
Importantly, weight distribution remains an ideal 50:50 split front to rear. Overall weight is down 88 pounds on the outgoing model as well. Most of the extra girth benefits rear seat passengers, which get more legroom as well as shoulder room.
Three trim levels and two engines, initially
Buyers in the U.S. can look forward to three different trim levels--Sport Line, Luxury Line and Modern Line--and two new engines: a range-topping six-cylinder turbo in the 335i model or a new four-cylinder turbo in the 328i.

Looks like BMW is going all-out with turbos for it's engine lines, in order to fight the ever tightening CAFE requirement.

I'm the Firestarter
Not sure why they claim the 8-sp auto is "a first" in this segment. Audi had an 8-sp on the A4 since last year.
Anybody got more pics of the M-package? That's probably the best hope as far as exterior styling, all the other ones seem almost the same. I'm guessing the blue pic in this thread is the M style, but it's not a very good angle.

The seats look a bit cheesy to me
The second page of that thread also has a nice chop:
I also find it funny that so many people in that thread are bitching about the steering wheel.

who complained about bmw's steering wheel?
I love their steering wheel!
ALso the new interior is much much more better than the current gen. I like how they moved everything up in line with the drivers eye so you dont have to look down anymore. And I like the new placement of the nav and center armrest/transmission terminal.

However, after I had a chance to drive E46 M3 and E90 335i for quite extensive time. My perception changed. I've driven A LOT of cars over the years, but the BMW 3-series really stand out in terms of driving excitement. It's just SO FUN to drive.
And you can always change out the rims to make the car to have totally different feel to it.

Oh, yes, that's for sure.
But I think you are getting A LOT more than what you actually pay for, at least for me.

Excellent steering and feels very solid on the road. The age of the car has shown every corner BMW cut though and as a result, I don't know that I'd ever buy a new one.
