Shouldn't they build 177?

Why not just call it the Aston Martin 77 then?

From Autoblog...

Aston Martin has released the first image of its newest flagship – the limited edition One-77. Details are scarce, but the One-77 will be powered by a hand-built 7.0-liter V12 nestled inside an aluminum and carbon fiber chassis. 0-60 times are estimated at 3.5-seconds, with a top speed cresting 200 mph.

77 examples of the £1 million coupe will be produced and customers will be able to customize the bespoke supercar to meet their individual tastes. The One-77 will be revealed later this year (Paris?) and will go on sale shortly afterwards.

This will be the first all-new vehicle from Aston Martin produced after the brand was sold by Ford to a group of investors spearheaded by Prodrive's David Richards. We're also curious to know if the One-77 will play a part in Project Alligator, the rumored collaboration between Aston and Mercedes-Benz. All details will be revealed in due time. Until then let your eyes feast on the only image we have of the upcoming One-77 supercar.

From Motor Authority...

The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, with the release today of an official teaser for a new flagship model that’s set to enter production in an extremely exclusive run of just 77 cars. The only details released thus far are that it will feature a sophisticated carbon-fiber chassis with a handcrafted aluminum body and a 7.0L V12 powerplant.

The new teaser shows a distinctly Aston Martin design, but with an added aggressiveness that even the company’s racing models lack. Side strakes and character lines on the hood plus an indentation above the rear fenders combine to give it a decidedly fast look, even while standing still.

‘One-77’ is only the working title for the car. Last year the ‘DBX’ name was thrown up by the carmaker’s CEO Ulrich Bez, but until now there was very little information available in regards to a new Aston Martin supercar.

The new One-77, meanwhile, is expected to be based around a heavily modified version of the current vertical horizontal (VH) platform. In keeping with the ‘7’ theme of the car, power is rumored to be up around the 700hp (522kW) mark, and this should ensure the One-77 becomes the fastest production Aston in history. Expect to see 0-60mph (96km/h) runs of 3.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph (320km/h).

front is very gran turismo like. the protruding fender flares and low swoop hood/grille really do make it look like it is in motion. pure sex.

Aston Martin One-77

http://www.leftlanenews.com/aston-martin-one-77.html

So far, Aston Martin has only released a single teaser sketch of its forthcoming One-77 limited-edition sports car. But that didn’t stop illustrator Jon Sibal from creating an image of how the finished car will likely look. As one might infer from the car’s name, Aston’s newest supercar will see a limited production run, with only 77 units being built.

Under the One-77’s sleek hood lies a 7.0L V12 with a yet-to-be-disclosed amount of power. However, there’s speculation a new 7.0L powerplant will be powerful enough the rocket the One-77 from naught to sixty in just 3.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed in excess of 200 mph.
The One-77’s body will reportedly be crafted out of aluminum, while its chassis will be made completely from carbon fiber.
Aston plans to have the car completely finished by the end of this year, with sales starting in late 2009. The One-77 is expected to carry a price tag of as much as $2 million.
Pics at link listed above.

Aston Martin One-77: Official renderings leak

In August, we brought you a stunning illustration of how our artist thought the Aston Martin One-77 would look, based on teaser images released by the British supercar maker. Today, some official illustrations leaked from within Aston, showing exactly how the forthcoming $2 million sports car will look.

Also leaked are detailed specs, indicating a 7.0 or 7.3 liter V12, delivering 700 horsepower and 533 pound-feet of torque. An automated manual gearbox with Auto Shift Manual and Select Shift Manual will come standard, as will a retractable rear spoiler, carbon ceramic brakes, and adaptive suspension.

Top speed is expected to be over 200 mph, and naught to sixty should take a mere 3.5 seconds.

The 3,300 lbs car has a carbon fiber chassis and aluminum body panels. U.K. pricing has been confirmed at £1,050,000, which will put U.S. pricing somewhere between $1,500,000 and $2,000,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2009.
