It's really nice and I like it a lot, but it doesn't look like a 1 million pounds car. For that price it shouldn't look like a MUCH cheaper car with a nice body kit and fancier interior.

this car is super elite - price is not of a concern. you dont cross shop a car this limited. theres no comparison, the aston 77 IS the market. also, do you realize how pricey the avg buyer's stable is to being with?
and non-socialites that could afford one would probably be willing to pay double if they could only get on the list - which they cant.
plus, aston is only making a handful - the revenue from sales needs to at least be somewhat comparable to the cost of development. (although i have a feeling that most halo cars lose money, but gain product image)

The other thing I was driving at is, what, exactly, does a $2.2 or $1M car *look like*? Does it have gold lining in the wheelwells? (in the case of the McLaren F1, it does have gold-plating inside the engine bay, but you can't see this from the outside). What are the external "cues" which would give away the price of such a car. My answer is, there wouldn't be any. Would you *want* a car that screams $1M?? Maybe those wheels with the diamonds in them? Yeah, that'll scream money. People who buy cars like this don't want stuff like that. These cars use the best technology available (one look at the internals of the One-77 will show you that), design (with arguable exception, these cars have timely designs that become instant classics), and also status. (And that last one doesn't require any external cues, people who are "in the know" will know what car it is). Do these cars cost that much to make? Probably not, but the manufacturers can ask for that much because these are their top-shelf, money-no-object flagship vehicles.

The Veyron is already known to be an ultra-expensive car, and it was developed from scratch. That Aston looks like the other Astons, with nicer details, it doesn't look like it was designed from the ground up to be a "no-limits" car... because they started with the body of an existing "average" supercar.
If you're looking for exclusivity it just seems like paying $1.6 million for a car that looks like a souped-up $200,000 car is not as good a deal as getting a car that everyone knows at first glance costs $1.6 million.
Just seems like Aston took the easier route, that's all.

So you would have liked AM to build a car that looks nothing like an AM? What would be the point of that?

No, just one that looks somewhat different instead of looking like a body kit on an existing car. You know, kind of like what the Carrera GT is for Porsche, it looks like a Porsche but nobody will ever confuse it with a souped-up 911.
By the way, I hope for that price you don't get spammed with their stupid slogan every time you turn on the ignition.

Ok WTF .. seriously, this is one of the best looking cars ever made.... and, while it has lines which are similar to other Aston models, no way in hell does it look like one of them. It is a hyperextension and exaggeration of everything Aston Martin has done over the years. The DB9 and Vanquish, to name the main culprits.

Aston Martin One-77 Hits 220mph During Development Testing
By Thami Masemola
December 22, 2009 4:00 PM
Aston Martin is accelerating development on the upcoming One-77 supercar. During top secret high-speed testing in the south of France the car comfortably achieved a top speed of 220.007mph (354.86 km/h) under dry but windy conditions. More tests will be conducted in the new year, including dynamic testing.
The One-77 is powered by a 7.3-litre V12 engine and will be Aston's most powerful and of course expensive road car ever. It is a two-door, two-seat coupe with a carbon fibre monocoque body structure.
A limited production run of only 77 will be produced and sales are scheduled to start in the middle of 2010.

wowzas. love the rear. clean, simple, and downright mean. i cant wait until they start to incorporate the taillight design throughout the line-up. b/c the other aston rears are starting to look a bit dated.
otherwise, i think the 77 looks great minus the sidevents - which are too generic for a design that should be pushing the envelope. the vents actual remind me of a vette. not a good thing.
BTW - so coincidental - i JUST framed a photo i took at villa d'este and hung it above my bed. one of the coolest places ive ever visited.

Sorry but IMO it blends in with the other other Astons. Doesn't look anything like what the price tag suggests.
