TLX continued to sell well in July with the A-Spec model drawing showroom interest, but tight supplies due to strong sales the past two months limited total TLX sales in July.
So 3500, and 3175 are strong sales, enough to make supply tight...2495 tight? So how is it you expect 50k in sales, yet have supply issues with only being able to have just 2500 cars sold. Sounds like an excuse to me.
It is kinda a vicious cycle, because the dealers are not selling a lot of them, they want to take advantage of every TLX they sell.... but at the same time, because they dont want to deal, that is why it is not selling....
I expect them to start facing the reality within the next month or so haha. The improvements are exactly what the TLX needed but they aren't exactly ground breaking. The TLX should have been like that from day 1.
To be honest, i have a few friends working for local Acura dealer. They are just as frustrated as some of us here and this has been going out for a several years already, i think ever since TLX first came out.
The sales and the dealers are all willing to deal but Acura/Honda does not provide enough incentives, so their deals are not competitive in the segment regardless what the MSRP says. There is only so much discount a dealer can offer from their own pocket.

If the TLX were truly the value play that Acura thinks it is, they wouldn't need incentives to sell it in the desired volumes. The regular price would stand on its own.

In theory yes, but we all know that is not the case.
I'm not sure if I am understanding correctly, but my point is that, MSRP vs MSRP, Acura's have always been cheaper and that there's a certain price gap. When others do deals, to maintain that price gap, Acura gotta offer incentives to maintain that gap too.
For the TLX we are talking about here though, based on the feedback on the TLX subforum, Acura currently isn't offering much, if any deals on the 2018 model. Specifically, many have been complaining that the lease payment is even higher than the German brands.
On a serious note, they gotta start offering incentives to the TLX. In the TLX forum, it seems like the dealers aren't negotiating on the price.
They do offer incentives. They have been since June. $750-$2750 depending if you purchase or lease. I got $2000 off my A-Spec last week. If you go into a dealer knowing about the factory to dealer incentives they'd be insane to not give you something off msrp because there's another dealer that will.
They've got something seriously wrong with their production and product planning. I put a deposit in June for my Blue TLX and nothing was being sent out to California till now. No idea what they're doing.

August 21, 2017 — An Acura HandsFreeLink class-action lawsuit will proceed after a federal judge allowed a few claims to continue while dismissing the majority of the class-action lawsuit.
The HandsFreeLink lawsuit has 12 named plaintiffs alleging they purchased new or used Acura vehicles equipped with defective Bluetooth and HandsFreeLink systems that caused a “parasitic drain” on their electrical systems. Acura advertised the systems as a way for customers to connect their phones to the vehicles and enjoy hands-free phone calls and other advantages, all at a premium price.
Within a few years of purchase, the plaintiffs allegedly began to experience electronic issues with their vehicles, especially with premature dead batteries. The plaintiffs claim they were forced to purchase several new batteries at their own expense and make other costly repairs.
According to the lawsuit, the electronic systems were failing because the HandsFreeLink systems drained the batteries at unusually high rates and affected other electronic devices, such as the alternator.
The plaintiffs say Acura was aware of defects in the HandsFreeLink system because in June 2005, Honda issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) to dealers that allegedly said the HandsFreeLink system “does not work” and may cause a dead or low battery.
In addition, the problem “effectively elude[d] diagnosis" and “once the HandsFreeLink™ defect compromises the battery, the system can ‘reset,’ hiding the problem until the system gets stuck again.” More bulletins were sent to dealers in 2008 and 2012 telling dealers the only way to fix the problem was to replace the HandsFreeLink systems.
The plaintiffs also claim the problem is a safety hazard because vehicles can stop operating while on the road.
The original lawsuit was filed in 2016 and then an amended lawsuit was filed alleging 69 counts under 11 state laws related to the HandsFreeLinks problems. Acura filed its motion to dismiss all the claims because they are untimely or fail as a matter of law.
The court granted Acura's motion to dismiss implied warranty claims under Delaware, Kansas, New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas and Virginia law considering the statutes of limitations for claims arising from a contract for sale is 4 years starting from the time of sale. The judge ruled none of the claims were brought within 4 years of purchasing their vehicles and are therefore untimely.
Except for one plaintiff, the California Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law claims are dismissed without prejudice, and the Delaware, Kansas, New Hampshire, Virginia, Texas and Florida consumer protection claims are dismissed without prejudice. The consumer protection claim under Ohio is also dismissed, but with prejudice.
However, the judge did rule certain claims related to California consumer protection laws and fraudulent concealment can proceed.
The Acura HandsFreeLink lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California - Mark Gerstle, et al., v. American Honda Motor Company, Inc.
Honda HR-V sets yet another new monthly record in August
Sporty models boost Honda Civic to strong increase
Honda core products Accord, Civic and CR-V all top 30,000 in sales in August
Acura RDX sets new August sales record
Acura ILX gains again, up 17.7 percent in August
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported total August sales of 146,015 Honda and Acura vehicles, a slight decrease of 2.4 percent vs. August 2016. Total Honda Division sales decreased 1.8 percent on sales of 132,883. Honda cars gained 4.2 percent with 71,433 vehicles sold in August, while Honda trucks were down 8 percent on sales of 61,460 units due largely to limited inventory of key models. Acura Division sales were down 7.8 percent on August sales of 13,132 vehicles, with trucks declining 1.4 percent on sales of 9,211 units, and cars down 20.1 percent on sales of 3,921 vehicles.
Honda
Honda cars showed no signs of slowing in August, with Civic grabbing a strong 11.2 percent gain versus 2016 and Accord holding steady in the final year of its current form, despite all-new competition. With the exception of HR-V, which set a new August record close to its best month ever, Honda trucks were still feeling the pinch of tight supplies in August.
HR-V set a new August sales record, jumping 26.7 percent on sales of 9,603, just 176 shy of its best month ever.
Civic sales again topped 36,000, for a gain of 11.2 percent in August.
Accord crested 30,000 sales for the month as it continued to buck the downward sedan sales trends among other manufacturers.
"With millions of people suffering due to the extreme weather in Texas and neighboring states, our thoughts and concerns are focused on their quick recovery and we are committed to supporting our customers at this difficult time," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of the Automobile Division of American Honda.
Acura
The ILX, Acura's gateway model, again led Acura sales gains in August as the luxury sedan market saw many luxury carmakers continuing to pour on the incentives in a bid to find sales. On the truck side, the Acura RDX continued to show sales strength, setting a new August record in one of the industry's hottest segments.
ILX sales were up for the 3rd month in a row, gaining 17.7 percent in August on sales of 1,380.
RDX set a new August sales record, gaining 11.2 percent on sales of 4,679 for the month.
"At a time like this, our thoughts are with those who are suffering from the hurricane in Texas and we are taking steps to support our customers during this challenging time," said Jon Ikeda, vice president & general manager of the Acura division.
Time to bring on some serious incentives for the TLX. A lot of cars in this segment like the IS, A4, Q50 are also struggling at around 2500 units in August.

Audi A4 might be around 2,500 units (2,746 to be exact), but year to date vs same period last year and the year before that, A4 sales are actually up.
Jan - Aug 2015 = 20,048
Jan - Aug 2016 = 21,464
Jan - Aug 2017 = 23,960
we should have a press briefing from them in short time about how the supply is still limited and this recent hurricane will set them back even further with supply and they will somehow come up with a spin to make the sales figures look to be good.

And here they try to spin the ILX increase in sales by 17.7 percent as good. Problem is is when you are barely selling more than 1k units a month i wouldnt call 17.7% increase something to brag about on the entry model for the division. At min this is what the RLX should be selling a month and them bragging about.
That's not surprising. Adding the A-Spec just put a new trim near the top of the price range.. not many people buy the pricier trimmed cars.
Other than that, it's still the same car with revisions to aesthetics only (the non A-Spec).
Even when the 3G TL-S came out, that did little to hold TL sales up. That car was highly desirable at the time- way more than the A-Spec, and even it couldn't hold sales steady.
Acura is also hurting itself by not offering any incentives on the TLX. They literally are shooting themselves in the foot and wondering what the problem is.
Acura China sales. Honda reputation will make Acura success. they are aiming over 40k sales in China next year.

Acura will augment its competitiveness by adding local production of two other nameplates. In December, it plans to start local output of the TLX-L. Then, in 2018, it begins domestic production of the RDX, timed to the crossover's redesign and positioned to tap China's SUV boom.
Sales of the RDX alone should reach about 20,000 a year after local production kicks in, projects Tsuneyoshi Matsumura, manager of automobile sales for Acura in China.
American Honda sets new September records for total vehicle sales (up 6.8%) and total truck sales (up 0.5%)
Honda Division also nets September records for total vehicles (up 7.4%), cars (up 14.5%) and trucks (up 0.2%); Acura trucks also set new September record (up 2.4%)
Honda Civic smashes previous best September, jumping 25.8% over 2016
Honda HR-V sets ninth straight monthly record, gaining 17.1% for best September
Honda core products Accord, Civic and CR-V combine for nearly 100,000 sales
Acura MDX has record September as sales jump 8.9%
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported best-ever September total sales of 142,722 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 6.8 percent vs. September 2016. Honda Division also set a new September record, gaining 7.4 percent on sales of 129,776 units. Honda cars and truck both set September records, with cars gaining 14.5 percent on sales of 69,407, and trucks up 0.2 percent on sales of 60,369 units, even as supplies of key truck models remain tight. Acura Division sales rose 1.0 percent on sales of 12,946 vehicles for the month, with trucks setting a new September record—gaining 2.4 percent on sales of 9,061 units.
Honda
Strong sales of both cars and trucks fired Honda brand sales gains in September, pushing the brand to new records for both. Civic stole the show, posting a 25.8 percent jump for a new September mark, while Accord gained nearly 10 percent for the month despite being at the end of its lifecycle. On the truck side, HR-V extended its streak of record sales months to 9, while Pilot enjoyed a double-digit gain helped by a recent increase in production volume. However, tight supplies of key models checked sales growth with the remainder of the Honda truck lineup.
Civic sales jumped 25.8 percent on sales of 35,452 to smash its previous September best.
Accord posted a notable total 29,789 sales for the month, gaining 9.5 percent as it continues to buck industry sales trends even in its final days on the market.
HR-V also set a new September mark, extending its 2017 record streak to 9 months with a gain of 17.1 percent on sales of 8,024 units.
Sales of Honda's Pilot rose sharply in September, up 11.8 percent on sales of 10,295 while CR-V posted another strong month of 30,956 despite inventory issues.
"Honda is enjoying a sales situation that, while still favoring truck growth, has been punctuated by new strength on the car side of the equation," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of the Automobile Division of American Honda. "After a strong media launch of the 2018 Accord last week, we're excited to see how this great new car contributes in the coming months."
Acura
Acura sales rose slightly in September, continuing a steady pace driven by the on-going strength of the Acura MDX and RDX and supplemented by continued recent gains by Acura's gateway sedan, the ILX, which has performed well above the industry in the segment. Acura trucks set a new September best, driven by the MDX which also set a September record.
ILX sales gained for the fourth straight month, rising 33.4 percent on September sales of 1,222.
With production of the MDX now transferred completely to Ohio, production increases are already reaping benefits as MDX gained 8.9 percent on sales of 5,368 for a new September record.
"Despite softened sales in several key segments where we compete, Acura was able to continue sales gains in September," said Jon Ikeda, vice president & general manager of the Acura division. "With production changes helping our MDX inventory, we will continue efforts to gain sales momentum."
