I'm surprised at how well they've held their value over the years. I figured you'd be easily able to get one for less than $100k at this point but nope, still north of $130k. Maybe it's the crazy market but who knows...

More Power, Torque and Acceleration
With a combination of a high-output twin-turbo V6 and torque-vectoring Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® three-motor hybrid system, the second generation NSX drivetrain has been groundbreaking since the supercar launched in 2016. Enhanced for the new NSX Type S, it produces the highest combined output of any drivetrain in any road-going Acura ever, with a combined system output of 600 horsepower and 492 lb.-ft. of torque.

Hand-built in a special facility at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, the supercar’s exclusive twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter 75-degree V6 engine is enhanced with new fuel injectors (providing a 25 percent higher flow rate), new intercoolers (capable of dissipating an additional 15 percent more heat), and new turbochargers shared with the NSX GT3 Evo (delivering a 5.6 percent increase peak boost pressure from 15.2 to 16.1 psi.). The result is an increase in engine output from 500 hp to 520 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of torque to 443 lb.-ft.

The gear ratio for the Twin Motor Unit (TMU) that powers the front wheels and provides active torque vectoring in corners has been lowered to 10.382:1 from 8.050:1. This 20 percent lower ratio increases off-the-line torque, giving NSX a powerful launch.

Additionally, the supercar’s Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) providing power to the electric motors is used more efficiently. This allows for a 20 percent higher usable battery capacity, and 10 percent greater battery output. The higher capacity and output allowed engineers to retune the electric motors in the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system for enhanced performance in all four modes of the Integrated Dynamics System (see below) and deliver extended EV range.

9-Speed DCT Transmission Advancements
NSX Type S routes power through a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), which has been retuned for even greater performance. Enhancements include an all-new Rapid Downshift Mode, more aggressive automatic downshifting, even faster upshifts in Sport and Sport+ modes and a higher rev threshold for downshifts in Track mode.

In Sport mode and above, the new Rapid Downshift allows the driver to skip several gears at a time by holding down the downshift paddle, rather than clicking through individual gears. When the paddle is held down for 0.6 seconds, the transmission automatically selects the lowest possible gear for the vehicle’s speed, reducing the amount of time spent shifting and allowing the driver to apply throttle even more quickly.

Using the paddles to upshift in Sport and Sport+ modes has been improved with new programming that engages the clutch up to 50 percent faster from the moment the paddle is activated, improving acceleration.

If the paddles are not used while in Sport+ mode, the transmission downshifts almost immediately when brake pressure is applied, such as when slowing for a corner. This helps maintain stability by changing gears while the car is in a straight line and sets up NSX for even faster acceleration out of corners by optimizing engine speed.

Transmission behavior in Track mode has been improved as well, allowing NSX Type S to downshift earlier thanks to a rev threshold that has been increased by 1,500 rpm. This change lets NSX Type S drivers activate the downshift paddle earlier during deceleration.

Optimized Handling, Ride Comfort and Response
Acura engineers have optimized the chassis, suspension and response of the NSX Type S, increasing the supercar’s performance and emotional connection with its driver. The four modes of its Integrated Dynamics System also have been re-tuned to improve performance, and the Intake Sound Control (ISC) and Active Sound Control (ASC) have been reprogrammed for a more integrated engine note. The result is a unique supercar experience that combines world-class handling and thrust with an impassioned driving experience and daily livability.

Integrated Dynamic System
Quiet Mode – Quiet mode combines the increased battery capacity and output with the new lower gearing for the TMU for sharper acceleration from a stop. The higher output and capacity also mean that NSX Type S can remain in its pure electric mode for extended periods, even when using more aggressive inputs of the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the ISC is programmed for minimal engine sound while in Quiet mode.

Sport Mode – In addition to implementing the new Rapid Downshift function, Sport mode has been updated with new calibrations for the suspension dampers and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD®. The new suspension calibrations reduce body roll and brake dive, creating a more stable turn-in.

The supercar uses its Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® to vector torque and create a yaw moment giving NSX Type S steering a sportier and more responsive feeling. When exiting a corner the TMU assists with additional torque for a direct and light feeling, with less accelerator pedal input.

Sport+ Mode – Intended for spirited driving on winding roads, Sport+ has been reprogrammed to help the driver feel more integrated with the car, starting with earlier downshifting when the transmission is in fully automatic mode. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® is optimized to help improve turn-in by using the torque vectoring to create an even more aggressive turning feel for a given steering angle.

When accelerating out of a corner, the TMU offers additional assist, stabilizing the car while improving acceleration. In Sport+, gear upshifts also are up to 50-percent faster, reducing the amount of time between shifts and improving acceleration.

Track Mode –Track mode has been updated to maximize the additional performance and grip potential of the NSX Type S. When downshifting into 2nd through 7th gears, the allowable downshift speed has been raised by 1,500 rpm, giving the driver more control over power delivery and keeping the engine in its most powerful rev range in circuit conditions. Additionally, in Track Mode, the ISC and ASC sound profiles also are optimized and provide a more clearly audible cue on the ideal shift points.
New Forged Wheels, Wider Track
New performance forged alloy split-five spoke wheels are available in Matte Shark Grey or Gloss Berlina Black. Their increased negative offset widen the front and rear track of the NSX Type S by 0.4-in. and 0.8-in., respectively. This not only improves the supercar’s handling but gives it an especially aggressive stance.

Brembo® High Performance Braking
For the 2022 NSX Type S, six-piston front and four-piston Brembo® brakes with red finished calipers are standard equipment. Upgrading to the Lightweight Package, includes Carbon Ceramic Brembo brakes (available with Black, Silver, Red or Orange calipers) and yields a curb weight reduction of nearly 58 lbs.

Bespoke Pirelli P-Zero Tires
To maximize performance, Pirelli has developed a new P-Zero tire exclusively for the NSX Type S utilizing advanced modeling technology developed through years of motorsports experience. Sized 245/35ZR19 at the front and 305/30ZR20 at the rear, the tires feature an asymmetric tread pattern for excellent steering precision, rear stability and high grip in wet and dry conditions and Ultra High Performance tread compounds to provide outstanding handling and braking performance. Along with the increase to front and rear track, the new tires contribute to a 6-percent increase in lateral grip.

Each bespoke Pirelli P Zero for the 2022 NSX Type S has the “H0” marking on the sidewall indicating that it has been specially developed with Acura to enhance the performance of the supercar.

Race-Inspired Design and Aerodynamics

Dramatic and aggressive, the new design of NSX Type S remains rooted in the fundamental principles of Total Airflow Management that has guided NSX design from the outset. The new nose, with its larger, more angular air intakes, and the rear end’s larger diffuser work together for enhanced high-speed stability. The new shape of its carbon fiber front spoiler minimizes front aerodynamic lift by directing air flow under the car.

To help cool the more powerful engine a larger front grille opening allows more air to reach the radiators, while four additional openings, two on each side, route air to a sub-radiator behind each corner of the front bumper. The outermost air intakes also pass air through to the side of the car, working with the redesigned front corners to create an air-curtain. This reduces the wake along the side of the car, improving air flow to the side-mounted air intakes for the intercoolers.

Air exiting the rear of the car is routed through a new, larger carbon fiber diffuser modeled after the one used on the NSX GT3 Evo race car. Shaped to allow quick air flow through the center section, the diffuser creates downforce. Additional fins help to prevent wake effects from the tires when cornering, which would reduce the downforce in critical cornering maneuvers. The diffuser shape also shifts the negative pressure peak position toward the rear, helping to create a balanced downforce effect.

Exclusive Design Details
Authentic materials are utilized throughout the NSX Type S, including the carbon fiber used for its front lower spoiler, side sills, rear deck-lid spoiler and the new diffuser. A standard carbon fiber roof not only enhances the new design but helps lower the supercar’s center of gravity by reducing weight higher up in the car. Previously resin, the mesh in each of the front air intakes are steel.

Gloss Berlina Black outside mirrors, door handles, a dark exhaust finisher and, for the first-time, Acura badges front and rear are standard. Dark-tinted headlight and taillight lenses and a distinctive red engine cover further the aggressive appearance. “Type S” decals grace the rear quarter panels and each NSX Type S will feature a special numbered plaque mounted to the engine cowling.

For increased performance, and an even more custom appearance, buyers can add the available Lightweight Package, which adds a high-gloss carbon fiber engine cover and carbon ceramic brakes. Inside, the Lightweight Package includes carbon fiber accents on the steering wheel and carbon fiber meter hood. Put together, the Lightweight Package reduces curb weight by 57.8 pounds (26.2 kg).

New Gotham Gray Finish
Available in 10 colors, the 2022 NSX Type S will be the first Acura product in North America available in an exclusive matte paint finish. The Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio uses a five-layer process that paints individual panels before they are mounted to the car, allowing each panel to completely cure before the next coat of paint is applied.

For the even more sinister appearance of Gotham Gray, a clear matte metallic finish is applied as the fifth layer instead of the instead of the glossy clearcoat normally used. Its production will be limited to just 70 of the 350 NSX Type S models that will be built.

This exclusive matte metallic finish requires new handling and shipping techniques at the PMC, to ensure it is fully protected when the completed vehicle is being transported. This includes a new protective film applied to the car, and a new, thicker and softer body covering for transportation. In addition, special care and training will be given to Acura dealers, who will instruct owners on the

Enhanced Driver-Focused Cabin
Inspired by the original NSX, the second-generation NSX interior is an ergonomic and driver-focused design that has been further elevated in NSX Type S. Newly-added are an Alcantara® headliner, embroidered Type S logo on the glove compartment and embossed NSX logos on the headrests. The NSX Type S logo is found on the key fob.

Additional interior details include contrast stitching and three available Alcantara® and Semi-Aniline Leather combinations; Ebony, Orchid and Red. Full Semi-Aniline Leather seats in Ebony or Red are optional.

Manufactured in America

Every second-generation NSX, including NSX Type S, is built exclusively at the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio. Designed from the outset for production of specialty, hand-built vehicles, the PMC was developed to innovate both the means and the methods of producing low-volume specialty vehicles by marrying the precision of advanced technology with the artistry of human craftsmanship. Also home to NSX GT3 Evo and the MDX, TLX and RDX PMC Editions, more information about PMC is available here.

The NSX engine is hand-assembled in a specialized facility within the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio.

An available Lightweight Package includes Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Carbon Fiber Engine Cover and Carbon Fiber interior package, reducing total curb weight by nearly 58 lbs.

More Power, Torque and Acceleration

With a combination of a high-output twin-turbo V6 and torque-vectoring Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® three-motor hybrid system, the second generation NSX drivetrain has been groundbreaking since the supercar launched in 2016. Enhanced for the new NSX Type S, it produces the highest combined output of any drivetrain in any road-going Acura ever, with a combined system output of 600 horsepower and 492 lb.-ft. of torque.

Additionally, the supercar's Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) providing power to the electric motors is used more efficiently.

Acura NSX Type S routes power through a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), which has been retuned for even greater performance.

When the paddle is held down for 0.6 seconds, the transmission automatically selects the lowest possible gear for the vehicle's speed, reducing the amount of time spent shifting and allowing the driver to apply throttle even more quickly.

Acura engineers have optimized the chassis, suspension and response of the NSX Type S, increasing the supercar's performance and emotional connection with its driver.

Quiet Mode - Quiet mode combines the increased battery capacity and output with the new lower gearing for the TMU for sharper acceleration from a stop. The higher output and capacity also mean that NSX Type S can remain in its pure electric mode for extended periods, even when using more aggressive inputs of the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the ISC is programmed for minimal engine sound while in Quiet mode.

Sport Mode - In addition to implementing the new Rapid Downshift function, Sport mode has been updated with new calibrations for the suspension dampers and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD®.

Sport+ Mode - Intended for spirited driving on winding roads, Sport+ has been reprogrammed to help the driver feel more integrated with the car, starting with earlier downshifting when the transmission is in fully automatic mode.

Track Mode -Track mode has been updated to maximize the additional performance and grip potential of the NSX Type S.

This not only improves the supercar's handling but gives it an especially aggressive stance.

Each bespoke Pirelli P Zero for the 2022 NSX Type S has the "H0" marking on the sidewall indicating that it has been specially developed with Acura to enhance the performance of the supercar.

Race-Inspired Design and Aerodynamics

Dramatic and aggressive, the new design of NSX Type S remains rooted in the fundamental principles of Total Airflow Management that has guided NSX design from the outset. The new nose, with its larger, more angular air intakes, and the rear end's larger diffuser work together for enhanced high-speed stability.

A standard carbon fiber roof not only enhances the new design but helps lower the supercar's center of gravity by reducing weight higher up in the car.

"Type S" decals grace the rear quarter panels and each NSX Type S will feature a special numbered plaque mounted to the engine cowling.

Available in 10 colors, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S will be the first Acura product in North America available in an exclusive matte paint finish.

In addition, special care and training will be given to Acura dealers.

Also home to NSX GT3 Evo and the MDX, TLX and RDX PMC Editions.

The NSX engine is hand-assembled in a specialized facility within the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio.

Agreed. By design, it’s really only intended for one percenters. Sorry to see it go but. there were a number of missed opportunities with the 2G NSX…so much so, it should never have been called an ‘NSX’.

that's alot of improvements for a fairly small 5% power increase.

With a combination of a high-output twin-turbo V6 and torque-vectoring Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® three-motor hybrid system, the second generation NSX drivetrain has been groundbreaking since the supercar launched in 2016. Enhanced for the new NSX Type S, it produces the highest combined output of any drivetrain in any road-going Acura ever, with a combined system output of 600 horsepower and 492 lb.-ft. of torque.

Hand-built in a special facility at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, the supercar's exclusive twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter 75-degree V6 engine is enhanced with new fuel injectors (providing a 25 percent higher flow rate), new intercoolers (capable of dissipating an additional 15 percent more heat), and new turbochargers shared with the NSX GT3 Evo (delivering a 5.6 percent increase peak boost pressure from 15.2 to 16.1 psi.).

Additionally, the supercar's Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) providing power to the electric motors is used more efficiently.

There Will Be Another Acura NSX

This week, we spoke to Acura Brand Officer Jon Ikeda about several subjects, including the company's new flagship (and entry-level model): the 2023 Acura Integra. But we had another burning question, given that the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is the last year for the luxury brand's flagship sports car: Will there be another NSX in the future? "[T]here will be a next one, at some point, I am sure … There will be another one," Ikeda says. And the next NSX, after a hiatus, will likely be an electric vehicle as each generation of the sports car has brought new innovation and helped define the brand.Yes, it required more capital to create the Type S for the final year of the NSX but the value of the car is as a marketing tool, a halo, a learning experience, awareness booster, and a guidepost for the direction Acura is taking to return to its former status as a premium performance brand. "We didn't go [NSX]into it to make a lot of money."

Ikeda said Acura always knew how long the NSX run would be and it was viewed as a vehicle that helped the brand look at what it wanted to be doing in the future and focus its direction. "We learned a lot about electrification and fun to drive which is a staple," Ikeda says. Honda is one of the biggest gasoline engine makers in the world and needed to see what will happen in a world turning away from engines. As a hybrid, the mission of the current generation of NSX was to find fun and it provided the confidence that the future will be engaging behind the wheel.

Acura has also been putting more equity into the Type S brand and making the NSX Type S the only option for the two-seater helps build momentum. During Monterey Car Week, the first NSX Type S was auctioned off for $1.1 million for charity.

Additionally, "We didn't want to let the NSX die on the vine either. To go quietly into the night is not what it deserves."

Which is about $12k cheaper than the Nismo GTR....still recall when the GTR debuted at the $70k mark! (Could have purchase one of those back in '09, rocked it for about 12 years then sold it for about $70k today. )

What's very likely the final version of the Acura NSX has officially entered production. The NSX Type S, limited to only 350 examples, is now rolling off the assembly line at the Japanese automaker's Marysville, Ohio facility, specifically the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC). Not surprisingly, every example is already spoken for and production is scheduled to end later this year.

"Today is an exciting day for PMC and Acura as we begin shipping the highly-desired NSX Type S supercar," said PMC Division Lead Gail May. "Every associate here is committed to ensuring that each Type S we build, from VIN#001 all the way up to VIN#350, will be as perfect as the first second-generation NSX this team built in 2016."

The first two examples feature the gorgeous Gotham Gray matte exterior paint that actually requires unique handling and shipping techniques in order to guarantee it doesn't get damaged when heading to dealers. The protection consists of a newly developed film that's applied to the completed car along with a thicker and softer body covering. Acura dealers are also receiving special training on how to treat the paint, a key detail owners need to know about.

Additional special features found on the Type S include bespoke five-spoke wheels, stickier Pirelli P-Zero rubber, a retuned adaptive damper system, exclusive decals, and a carbon fiber roof. Underneath that lightweight roof panel lies the most powerful engine Acura has ever stuffed into a production car: a newly updated version of the already excellent twin-turbo V6 and its three-motor hybrid system. Total output comes to 600 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque.

To compare, the standard NSX produces 573 hp and 476 lb-ft of twist. In both versions, all of that power is channeled to Acura's excellent Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system via a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For the Type S, the gearbox and AWD system have been retuned. Type S customers also have the option of tacking even more carbon fiber elements, specifically an engine cover, an interior package, and carbon ceramic brakes.

All told, that amounts to a 58-pound weight loss. Just 300 units will remain in the US, priced from $169,500, which is still a pretty decent price all things considered. The remaining 50 examples are heading overseas. The first example sold at a charity auction for a cool $1.1 million. There's still a waiting list of over 100 anxious people.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Stadium lights shine their bright white glow on the tarmac as I power out of the infield and up to the banking of NASCAR 1 at Daytona International Speedway in the 2022 Acura NSX Type S. The force of gravity quickly changes from normal to feeling like I’m being shoved down by a compactor. I gingerly arc down from the top of Daytona’s steep 31-degree incline and settle into the middle, right pedal down and holding the wheel steady. That last part, I quickly learn, is unnecessary, as the banking holds the car in place without needing to exert much steering force.

An immersive and sonorous note trumpets through the cabin as I stay in the throttle out of NASCAR 2. The Bus Stop Chicane (just renamed the Le Mans Chicane for this year’s Rolex 24) arrives quickly and with little warning when you have 600 horsepower hustling you there, and it’s perhaps the worst-lit corner on the track — ironic, considering you’re going as fast as anywhere at Daytona before having to apply the brakes. A loud, brap, brap, brap accompanies the slowdown. I smash over the rumble strips while exiting the chicane, and head back onto the oval for another go in the compactor for NASCAR 3 and 4.

And then that's it, my one flying lap in the one-year-only NSX Type S is over. Rolling back into pit lane, I’m attempting to process what just happened, but am reduced to one-word exclamations from the adrenaline rush. Piloting anything on-track at the Daytona road course at night is a bucket list, dream-come-true moment for a racing enthusiast, and I had just done it in Acura’s mid-engine supercar. Turns out, those hundreds of hours playing Gran Turismo and dreaming finally came in handy.

This brief and high-speed track drive is our first go at the new-for-2022 NSX Type S. Acura says that more seat time is coming in the future, but we’re to make do with this quick taste for the time being. That said, even if you wanted to at this point, the chances of buying a new NSX Type S are next to zero. The NSX swan song — yes, this is the NSX’s last model year — sold out in mere minutes, and all that’s left is a waiting list. Acura is building 350 total, and 300 are allocated for the United States. There will be no “standard” NSXs for 2022 either, so it’s either the $171,495 Type S or nothing.

Despite the rarity and short life, it's surprising how much effort Acura put into enhancing the NSX's complex engine and three-motor hybrid system. The standard car's 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 is upgraded with turbochargers yanked directly from the GT3 Evo racecar. To supplement that, it also gets new fuel injectors with a 25% higher flow rate and new intercoolers with 15% more heat dissipation capability. The engine is now contributing 520 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque to forward motion, increases of 20 and 37, respectively.

Acura then upgraded the NSX “Twin Motor Unit” that powers the front wheels by lowering the gear ratio from 10.38:1 to 8.05:1. This effectively gives the car more torque directly off the line, which means even harder launches than before. Those electric motors yank the car through and out of Daytona’s Horseshoe with the secure and reassuring show of visceral force we’re used to from the NSX. The battery powering these motors is also upgraded with a 10% greater output and 20% higher usable capacity. Due to this drive’s nature, I didn’t get a chance to test out the Type S’ improved battery-only hybrid operation, but the upgrades should lead to less engine use in the efficient “Quiet” mode.

Total system output is now rated at 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of torque, and even in just one lap, the difference in forward thrust is perceptible. I don’t expect a drastic change in acceleration times (Acura only specified "under 3.0 seconds" despite the standard NSX being estimated at 2.9 seconds), but putting your foot down leaves little doubt that the Type S charges harder from corner-to-corner than the regular NSX does.

Another key upgrade made for the Type S concerns the transmission. The nine-speed dual-clutch automatic is re-tuned, and it engages the clutch 50% faster upon paddle press. This means a more instantaneous response and snappier reflexes to your paddle prodding. In addition to quicker gear changes, the Type S gains a new “Rapid Downshift” mode that automatically drops you into the lowest-possible gear when you hold the downshift paddle down. New programming also quickens downshifts in automatic mode when you apply brake pressure — say, when you’re coming in hot on the curved entry to turn 1 — and the rev threshold for pulling manual downshifts is increased by 1,500 rpm, letting you pull quicker downshifts that zing the needle higher up the tachometer.

Most noticeable out on track is how smart the transmission sets itself up for every situation in automatic mode. It bangs off shifts with what sounds like an extra bit of violence in the form of staccato pops. This in-cabin volume increase is the most obvious new experience in the Type S from the get-go, too. A lack of emotion and drama from the V6 was one of the standard NSX’s most common complaints. It’s not mended with a new exhaust, but Acura says it’s re-done the car's “Intake Sound Control” (basically funnels real noise into the cabin) and “Active Sound Control” (artificially creates and/or enhances noises inside the cabin). Anyone who’s driven a regular NSX will notice the more audible intake wailing and extra volume inside the cabin both on-throttle and with every shift.

Last up in the realm of upgrades for the NSX’s powertrain is a re-tuned SH-AWD system that takes advantage of the front motors’ and engine’s additional thrust and power. Of course, this all-wheel-drive system is so closely tied with the NSX’s handling capabilities that you can’t talk about one without the other. The Type S is truly a whole-car job, so of course Acura’s engineers went to work on the suspension, wheels/tires, drive mode tuning and more.

Unfortunately, the limited track time made it impossible to come to any grand conclusions about the improvements. That said, the breadth of the changes leads me to believe that we’re going to experience a noted difference in road behavior once we drive one outside the racetrack.

For the time being, know that the Type S gets recalibrated dampers with a greater range of stiffness depending on the mode. That means it’s still designed to be comfortable in the on-road modes, but is stiffer than before in Track Mode. New forged alloy wheels are set with more negative offset that in turn widens the front track by 0.4 inch and the rear track by 0.8 inch. The wheels are then wrapped in a Pirelli P-Zero summer performance tire made exclusively for the Type S that wasn’t previously available on the standard NSX. Acura claims the track increases and new tires allow for 6% more lateral grip. To quantify that and the extra power, Acura says the NSX Type S is 2 seconds quicker around the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.

There’s one main performance package available, the $13,000 Lightweight Package fitted to our track car that drops the curb weight by 57.8 pounds from an unannounced figure. The 2021 standard NSX tipped the scales at 3,878 pounds. Much of those savings (and the hefty price) comes from the carbon ceramic brakes, but the Lightweight Package also gives you a carbon fiber engine cover and carbon accents on the steering wheel and instrument cluster hood. All of the other carbon fiber optional extras on the regular NSX come standard on the Type S, most important of those being the carbon roof that reduces the center of gravity. The Type S-exclusive Gotham Gray Matte paint (pictured above) adds another $6,000.

The new Type S front end ensures that everybody knows this NSX is different from the rest, and its new design is functionally better than before. Acura says the more angular intakes, front spoiler and larger diffuser do a better job at minimizing lift and making the Type S more stable at high speed. Airflow to the intercoolers is also enhanced, ensuring proper cooling of the more powerful engine.

Of course, the one lap at Daytona does not even come close to testing the heat capacity of this car. It does, however, provide convincing evidence that this NSX Type S is truly the best performing NSX in every way while still remaining true to its purpose of being an everyday supercar. Navigating pit exit just inches from the Wall of Champions is an objectively stressful situation, but the NSX's expansive forward visibility makes it easier. Daytona’s walls on the infield loom in the darkness at track-level, but the NSX makes driving a stupid-quick car at this big track remarkably easy with its essentially fool-proof all-wheel-drive system. It’s the most point-and-shoot supercar in the game, and it’s going to make 350 people grin from ear-to-ear once they get behind the wheel.

Acura bid farewell to the NSX in April with the unveiling of a $169,500 Type S epilogue limited to just 350 cars. However, mere days after the world premiere, Vice President and Brand Officer Jon Ikeda hinted the performance machine would return at some point in the future as an electric model. Fast forward to this week, the very same person reiterated the plan for a third-generation NSX in an interview with the weekly news magazine Nikkei Asia.

When asked about the prospects of a new flagship sports car, Jon Ikeda said: "I would bet on it," adding that "it's going to be electric." Acura's VP went on to say the performance machine without a combustion engine "won't be just about straight lines." He also acknowledged it's not up to him to decide the NSX's comeback, suggesting that is likely going to be the responsibility of Honda President and CEO Toshihiro Mibe.
Interestingly, Nikkei Asia cites people familiar with Acura's agenda saying an all-electric NSX could arrive as early as 2026 when the parent company will introduce its dedicated Honda e:Architecture. However, nothing is official at this point so take this piece of unconfirmed information with the proverbial pinch of salt. The fact Jon Ikeda is quite vocal about the model's return just months after the Type S made its debut suggests the company won't be giving up on the fabled nameplate.

For the time being, the two Japanese brands have bigger fish to fry as Honda is preparing the 2024 Prologue and Acura the ZDX, complete with a Type S. The two EVs will ride on the Ultium platform developed by General Motors. Acura's first electric vehicle on the Honda e:Architecture will go on sale in 2026.

That might not be a bad thing since the only ground-up EV Honda has in their arsenal is the E.

As one fast Acura dies, another is born. Acura has just finished production of the 350th Acura NSX Type S, the brand's sendoff for its hybrid supercar.

While that car was rolling off the assembly line at the Acura Performance Manufacturing Center in Maysville, Ohio, a run of TLX Type S PMC Edition cars has just started.

Back in January, Acura began NSX Type S production the way it ended. Both car #001 and car #350 are finished in Gotham Grey with black wheels and red brake calipers. The original NSX was part of a rising crop of hybridized supercars when it began production in 2016.

It seems fitting that it ends now before Acura fully commits to electrification.

This NSX will also be going to a fitting home, too. Acura confirmed to CarBuzz that the car will be heading to a private owner in Florida, where it will live alongside a Gen 1 NSX and a HondaJet.

The special edition Acura TLX Type S has a unique tie-in with the NSX, perhaps best summed up by the photo below. Acura has previously said it will produce the limited PMC Edition run in three NSX-derived colors: Curva Red, 130R White (named for the famous right-hander at Suzuka), and Long Beach Blue.

The first two offerings, Curva Red and 130R, were sold out in minutes. If you're dead-set on getting into one of the most under-appreciated sports sedans on the market, Acura has revealed that reservations for the final Long Beach Blue PMC Edition cars will go live on December 8. As with the previous two color runs of the PMC, only 100 vehicles will be made in Long Beach Blue.

The TLX aside, it's tough to watch the NSX die.

For now, Acura has not revealed details on a successor. However, rumors are circulating that a follow-up NSX could be electric and arrive alongside a new Honda Prelude EV.

We do not doubt that 15 years from now, these cars will be described as "analog," in much the same way we talk about the original, gas-powered, and naturally-aspirated NSX of the 90s and early 2000s. We also expect to see these on auction sites for absurd sums in roughly the same timeframe.
