Would like to replace factory sub in factory opening

I have a 2004 TL and although the 8" sub is decent, in the overall scheme of things, it sucks for quality bass. I'm not looking to pound my ears out (i have a 12" Vega in the garage i could have put in if I really wanted to) nowadays I just want clean bass, that is louder, but not out of control. If I can, I would like to just put in a better 8" sub in the factory opening (I understand the sub will have to be free air, and not very deep (as the factory one isnt) which may make it difficult to find a sub for my request). I already know I will have to use a seperate amp as the factory one will not support the power of the new sub. Worst case scenario, I could go for a 10" in an enclosure that takes as little trunk space as possible. But I want to see what you guys have to say first.

as far as i know, your options for an 8" sub in the factory location are VERY limited. I think there used to be an 8" kicker, but it got discontinued. I'd suggest you get a 10" sub in a sealed enclosure and an aftermarket amp in the trunk, that would probably be ur best bet.

There's an 8" sub from Vifa in Denmark that has a real impedance of just under 6 ohms, a resonant freq of 26 (useful with infinite baffle), a QTS of .37 (also useful), and a total excursion of 12mm (xmax=6, which is one-way). Poly cone, rubber edge, means longer life in a R deck with UV exposure.

There's also a Peerless driver that is not as smooth sounding (Fs of 36 and QTS of .46 means peakier sound a little higher in the bass) , but has 20mm of travel. Deeper frame and motor though.. is there a depth restriction in this car?

if u replaced the factory sub wit an aftermarket sub and an aftermarket amp to power it.......would that affect the DVD-Audio 5.1 stuff at all?........meaning.....would it still function the same as before, just now with a louder, more powerful sub

If it's integrated properly, shouldn't make a diff...

Upon searching in the 3G TL forum I found:

Also have you heard of this brand? It seems they have one that would work.

they have 2 subs that can work for ib, id and id max. the idq will not. the id max is much better ( and much more $). i don't think the id max has an 8 " model though. make sure you use a high pass filter (subsonic, or ultrasonic filter at its resonant frequency). 100 to 200 watts should be plenty for the id sub. go to www.sounddomain.com for pricing and feedback. jps

i got my 10" Boston sub in ported Boston box for $150 from Custom Sounds, and because the salesman was nice, he gave me a 2-channel, 1,000 watt Exile amp for $200 instead of $300 (original price 400). the whole set cost me 380 including tax
installed everything myself, and i am very satistied with what i got, sound quality is great, the single 10in sub is strong enough to shake up my whole car if turned up high, Boston really lives up to their reputation
