Will do an install of the Alpine IVA-D300 and alpine navi tomorrow...got some ques...

the navi and the tuner of the d300 says i need to connect wires to both the parking brake and regular brakes. i found the parking break wire which is the green right above the parking brake pedal. i plan to just tap in to the parking lights for the the regular brake wire (unless someone can point me to the brake wire inside the cabin). what happens if i don't connect these two brake wires? will i still be able to use the navi as well as listen to music but not just be able to watch dvds.

also, do i need to connect the vss wire coming out of the navi brain to the vss of the car? that's the blue and white wire coming out of the cruise control module under the dash, right? what will happen if i don't connect it?

last question. i plan to connect the 12v and acc wires from the navi, the monitor and the tuner to the 12v and acc wires that the stock radio was orignally connected to. will this put to much strain on those wires and the main fuse? should i look for a different power source and split them up?

lots of questions...sorry...i just want to be prepared. thanks.

Not sure how I missed the original post... glad things went so well.

There are 3rd-party interface modules for cheap that "fool" the Alpine into playing video regardless of the state of the parking brake.

The Peripheral PTR7 will do this, according to the install instructions:

http://peripheralelectronics.com/per...tions/ptr7.pdf

And is available from CarDomain for $25:

will post some pics once i've hidden all the wires. right now their still all exposed in the back seat. i also need to find a way to mount the navi brain in the trunk. right now it's just laying on the trunk floor. will post some pics this weekend.

i am planning on just getting a switch from radio shack or home depot and try fooling the iva-d300 by grounding the switch. will work on that this weekend.

everything came out to about 3K. i already have decent amps, speakers and a decent sub so i din't feel the need to change those.

The Alpine has internal logic that makes it very hard to fool... not like the standard e-brake input on other units. THey REALLY want to avoid being sued.

your brain looks smaller than my brain! j/k! i ran the wires the same as yours, through the middle console it looks like from your pics. i will put the brain of the iva-d300 under the drivers seat since i hardly move my seat. the bottom of the passenger seat is already occupied with the ipod attachment from alpine.

with regards to fooling the iva-d300, i understand. i need to flip the switch twice then provide constant current. will try it with a switch first. if it doesnt work, i will buy a third party device off ebay.

Any chance of rotating that brain 90 degrees to avoid the RCA's getting kicked? They can eventually break and become intermittent...

I use the TR7 module from Pac with my D9. It bypasses the whole switch that I had before. I needed a 2k resistor with the 9, but I don't think any of the other alpine units need it.

I love the D300. What remote DVD navi unit did you use? I ask because Alpine has or will have a new one that is finally compatible with the touch screen controls and doesn't need a handheld remote to operate it. For a while they didn't.

i have the alpine NVE-N852A. it IS a pain having to use the remote. the d300 is an awsomec piece of equipment. the monitor is ok. the sound is excellent specially after fixing the settings a little bit.
