Speakers are a difficult thing to recommend. Everyones tastes about sound are different. Me personally I like the sound of the new Pioneer Premier and the fact that they weren't too expensive. Your best bet is to go down to a shop and listen to a few sets.

Yeah, Steph is right, speakers are more personal taste than "recommendation". I have recommended speakers in the past, and although they were top of the line and really expensive, people haven't liked their sound. You should go listen to some for sure.

Go with what you think sounds best. It's very hard to test speakers before you buy them since they will sound different in the store than in the car. Also depending on the amp that you use you will get varying sounds. I would pick up a copy of Car Audio magazine and check out a couple of top end installs and go from there. Once you have a list of which speakers you are eyeing go to a stereo shop and listen to them. I would also go to a high end audio shop in your area, someone that knows about speakers not your average Joe at Best Buy or Circuit City. A list of a few good Mid range speakers IMO are: JL Audio XR, Boston Accustic, MB Quart, A/D/S, and Infinity. Hope this helps...good luck!

MMATS DC1200 amp for the subs, MMATS LM2525 for the mids and highs, Phoenix Gold Zeropoint distribution block, lots and lots of Monster Cable, neon lighting.

Koni rear struts, brake upgrade and Inspire tail lights to come in the not so distant future.

I too liked the sound of the Rockford Fanatic X's. I had a set of the 6 3/4 component sets in my old Accord. They were huge and had a hard mid-bass and crisp highs...however...on removal from the accord I noticed that the rubber surrounds on the cones had come loose (adhesive failed). The only thing keeping the cones from flapping about was the grill which clamped down on the surround. I discovered this of course out of the warranty period . With this I find I cannot recommend them. The pioneer premiers sound nice at an affordable price. Their subs are built well too.

While there are a lot of good middle of the road speakers available the will satisfy 95% of the population, make sure that you spend some time truly listening to them BEFORE you buy them. I sell MB Quart and I get a lot of sales because when I initially turn them on the appear to have a much wider stage and much more brilliant dynamics. However, Quarts definately cause listening fatigue much quicker than most of their counterparts. The classic sign is the desire to turn the volume down a little after listenig for a while. A truly nice speaker is just as enjoyable 3 hours into the drive as it is at 5 minutes. Use your ears and you'll be fine.

Although I already stated that this is more personal preference, and I do like higher end like mb quart, focal, cd technologies, I just heard the new pioneer PRS component series and let me tell you that these mids and highs are some of the best I have heard full range. I couldn't believe I was listening to a pioneer speaker (not that pionner is bad, I have always been parital to pioneer/premier equipment). Anyway, check them out!

Another company that is mid-high end is Diamond Audio Technology. I heard them the other day. Appeared to be very nice! Priced from $300 - $600....

Diamond makes a phenomenal speaker. Very musical and incredibly accurate. Pioneer does not make bad equipment but they certainly are not in line with some of the higher end brands. I chose to pick on Quart only because they are the reference by which everyone else judges their tweeters and I sell them, so I'm not just attacking someone else's product.

ADS was the industry reference for high end car audio for years. From the Inferra designed speakers to the power plate amps. Unfortunately, they sold the company about 4 years ago and I have not heard any of the new stuff. But if tradition holds, then certainly not a bad choice.
