i like alpine. i think they are good quality head units. never had any problems with them.....and i think the sound pretty clean too. the only thing i don't like about the newer models is they have too many colors.

I personally like Nakamichi head units. I went for sound quality over all the bells, whistles, lights, etc. Nak makes good clean sounding, relatively plain head units. Just what I like.

Alpine does make a great deck, and they almost never have problems... but like icy said... they go a little overboard with colors. If you dont mind that though, they are wonderful decks. Another one I highly recomend is the JVC digifine 2.1 decks... they are definatly amazing, and you cant beat the price. Tons of features, they look great, are easy to use... sound GREAT!! I had one, but it got stolen I'm gonna replace it when I get some more money...

I love the colors on the Alpine units. Well only some of them the others look kinda weird. I was lookin for an HU that has blue lights or blue LEDs as the backlighting.

Sick Sytyles, DOOOOOOD, post pics or your car with the rims on it!!! I really want to put those on my car!!!! Don't know how they will look!!!!!

As for the 6 CD changer, it is a piece with the radio, you take the radio out, you take the CD changer out!!! If you change out the head unit, you will have to buy another 6 or 12 cd changer!!

I think Alpine makes fine stuff. I have the CDA-7878 with MP3 and XM. Don't have XM yet though. Their MP3 is the fastest at searching that I've seen. And it reads the Mp3's almost perfect. And my deck also has the DC-DC converter, for a cleaner sound. It cost about $700. I would love to get Nakamichi, but not @ $1700!

I have an Eclipse head unit and love it. They seem to look more simple than other units but sound cleaner. Years ago Alpine was on top. I wasn't impressed with them lately, thats why I went with Eclipse. Alpine, Keenwood, Pioneer are about the same now. They do have some nice end stuff. Stereos are getting to cluttered with buttons and annoying lights blinking. The more crap and clutter you stuff into something the less room you have for what's important and then you lose your signal to noise ratios. I would go for an Eclipse or Nakamichi (which is a very high end Panasonic.)

And Eclipse is just a high end toyota stock deck. I'm just messin with you - I'm on my second Eclipse unit and I think they're the best out there right now for quality/sound/cost. As for Nakamichi, there's a reason why audiophiles don't buy their home audio components anymore - cheaper manufacturing and lower quality control....but Naks do look cleaner and my new Eclipse is starting to get on my nerves with the 3d and moving nonsense

Current stuff that's good are Alpine, & Nakamichi. Some older stuff would be from Denon. I just love the old Denon head units. I have DCT-970R in my truck. A real volume knob, remote control, doesn't skip, & simple looking. No flashy muilty color lights, dancing displays, or weird finishes. Can't stand that stuff!! Sometime you can find them on Ebay.
