White Trash home sub question
White Trash home sub question
I took my subs(2 12" Orion DVC's w/Fosgate 2ch amp) out of my TL because they were too loud for my kids and weighing down my car too much. I have them in my garage. I have a Onkyo analog receiver hooked up to a couple old speakers and a sony 5 disc cd changer. I want to play around and see if I can hook my subs up to my receiver. The amp is hooked up to the subs now, how to I get this to work? Keep in mind this is just for my amusement I am not a hillbilly.
The problem is that you will need some sort of low pass filter.
YOu probably ran the subsbefore on a dedicated sub amp with a xover.
The receiver won't have one of those. YOu would need to put in a speaker level, or passive, crossover filter.
It is HARD to get one of those to sound right in a home setup - you need big inductors and capacitors, and they sap power. Far better to go to prts Express and get a dedicated sub only amp.

I have a dedicated sub amp that I want to connect to my receiver. I am not connecting the subs directly into my receiver. I need power cables from my sub amp to connect to a power source. I have sub amy hooked up to my receivers sub pre out on aleady.

I believe I just need to figure out a way to get the two power cables on the sub amp to connect into a single wire with a two prong plug that I can plug into my power strip, but one of the wires is a ground. Has anyone ever done this before, if so please tell me how to go about doing this effectively. It will be in my garage which is a full two car garage, pretty big area.
well car amp would run on 12V DC, and homes are what 110-120V AC, so you would need an inverter or something (i forget, i used to know what exactly it was called), but i wouldn't recommend trying that, as most usually aren't strong enough to run car audio amps, well i guess it depends on your car audio amp. and if they are, they are pretty expensive
I think your money would be better spent buying a new plate amp, meant for DIY home audio subs. i think they have them pretty resonably priced around 250-350W, as these should also have the built in crossover and stuff.
