hey i was wondering what frequency should i set my amp to?? its a 250w rockford fosgate powerign a 12 inch sub. i think the installer set it to 40 but i was messign arround a while ago and changed it to liek 100 because i was thinkign the more the better. but i've been noticign i've been getting alot of high pitched bass and i recently learned in physics class about frequency and i was like oh shit.... so any reccomendations???

I'm assuming you are describing a low-pass crossover setting on your amp.

I wouldn't go higher than 80, and I'd start at 60, but I like my 12"s to actually play sub-bass, and I rely on front-mounted midbasses to handle the rest. It's really based on how it sounds, NOT the actual number, I'm just picking a starting point based on experience. The higher it is, the louder it will be, but the more it will play higher notes.

Part of the problem is that your speaker in that box does NOT have a flat response down to 30 Hz or so, it's rolling off to some degree, and that means that to have close to a flat response you need a fairly low low-pass filter point, or you have a huge peak at the top end of the passband.

 

i was just outside playing with it. i put it to 80 coincidentally before i saw your post. there was also a switch that was like somethign somethign i dunno but it had three settings to it, like HB-full-FB or some sort, mine was set to FB or whatever the far right was, i'm guessing from what i heard that controls how much of the music the sub actually plays, so i kept it at FB because from what i'm thinkign it means FULL BASS. but when it was in HB and i was playign with the frequency, the higher i set it at, the less bass i heard and settign it lower in turn added more bass. when i was messing arroudn with some of my fullest beats on i didnt reall notice any change when i was messing with the frequency in FB.

There's no switch in your pic... but usually there's a HP and a LP, and you want LP. I'd politely suggest that you stop making up sotries about what abbreviations might mean, and read the manual.

Since others have complained at this point that they don't *have* the manual, I will say "Google" and leave it at that...

 

sorry but that was just from memory, and then i went outside and noticed i was wrong and there is a switch at the top right. i dont feel the need to look up what abbreviations mean because now i can just make up some, LP=low pitch HP=high pitch either way i know what they do from playing with them. thanks for your help palarino

LP is low pass... lets lows pass and filters highs.

HP lets highs pass and filters lows.

Get the manual of of Rockford's web site. Type in the model number and select manual from the drop down menu:
