Viper 550 ESP...
Hey...who here has one of these remote starter/alarm systems in their 2nd gen cl. How do u like it. Can the trunk opener be programmed??Any pros and cons to it. Also...can any upgradable newer remote transmitters be programmed to it.
The reason is I have a DEI add-on remote starter system but I just got a 550 ESP for free and am considering installing that instead. Please so any feedback would be appriciated. Thanks in advance!!

I had it. Worked fine. Trunk release does work. You can program alot of things if you have the DEI bitwriter. Only issue I had was the factory disarm wire was in the drivers door by the secruity light. Installer had to ground it out for the factory system to shut off.

What wire is the factory disarm wire??? I can't find it for the life of me!! I always have to disarm my 791vx before i can remote start and it pisses me off.....
Can you ask your installer what wire it was specifically???

I thought it was blue/white... but i've tried hooking up the factory disarm wire out of the alarm to 2 different wires back there by the tumbler, and nothing has worked.......

OK...this is news to me...what exactly do u guys mean by factory disarm wire???What do I have to do w/ it and why???Also...do I really need the DEI bitwriter or can I program all of the functions w/ the valet switch. If not where do I get a bitwriter. Also...i've seen many remote starts w/ a wire wrapped around the key illumintator to pick up the immobilizer signal. what exactly is done by this..do I still need an extra key in the car???

Most aftermarket alarms have a factory disarm wire on them. This wire is tapped into the factory alarm to automaticly disable the factory alarm when you use the aftermarket key fob. This in a sense bypasses any factory alarm the car has. This is any alarm install, not just remote start. You can program some things with the valet switch, but not everthing. Your wire around the key I don't know about. That seems to be a rigged method. You do need a key in the car. It has to be programmed, but doesn't have to be cut. It can be a blank. Another way is to get a factory bypass for the key. DEI makes some that let you splice into the factory alarm so you don't need the key in the car. The have this for GM & some Fords. Not sure if it is made for Acura.
Seems each CL/TL is a little different or maybe the installers just install them different. In my 02 I had the only way to get the factory alarm to disable was to ground out the wire by the door lock. Even though the right disarm wire was tapped. Others had no problems. You know if it doesn't work if when you remote start the car with out unlocking it & the factory alarm goes off.

OK guys...I'm going w/ the viper 550 esp. I'm also gonna have it professionally installed too so I don't have to deal w/ the headache. However the one i have is used and I don't have a manual for it. Can someone please give me a list of the programmable options that I can ask to be programmed when I get it installed. Also can I purchase a pager remote transmitter for this system.???Help me out guys..

just go to DEI's website (directed.com) and you should be able to print out a full installation manual for the 550. You can add on and FM Pager to the 550 pretty easily I want to say the model # is 795T for just a beeping pager ( not positive though), I would get it on ebay if I were you. Will be about 60-70% cheaper than buying it at a store, or you could go to a circuit city in your area and if they have it, it will be priced down to cost becuase Circuit city is no longer carrying DEI products. But, they may not have it in stock.

For the owners guides go to http://www.directed.com/guides/ogs.asp.
For the pager info go to http://www.directed.com/security/access/oaccess.asp , It's the 795t and listed for $207. I sold a customer one last week for $59, that's wholsesale price and what all circuit city's have them marked down to. The hard part would be finding one that has it in stock ebay would have them for about the same price.
