Using an aftermarket Head unit with the stock amp/system

Hey all,

I have a 2003 CL-S with the bose Head Unit and Amp. Is there a way I can put an aftermarket head in without bypassing the stock amp. I once heard of a way of fixing the impedance problem... any ideas?

I'm no CL expert (yet lol) but I've been researching for my next car, a CL. I found this, which has good reviews, even from some Acura owners.

I know from experience that some Bose speakers/amps have very strange impedance, very low or very high ohms in some cases. But I believe this was mostly with old and early Bose systems.

Upon closer inspection, the device linked above will allow speaker-level adjustments but I do not see any reference to impedance. It claims to allow aftermarket stereos to interact with original amps, including the Bose, or to make aftermarket amps easier. I've had mixed results with Bose amps in my Infinitis, and you could probly ask 100 people and get 100 different answers.

For $30 you could try the adapter above until you make the leap into $500 for a good amp and wiring. That's what I will do

One more small note, in previous Bose systems I replaced the Bose speakers with aftermarkets since they were almost always damaged... the rears at least always die a premature sun death. I retained the factory amps and it always sounded great with an Alpine head.

It will still work without that part, but you need to do some extra work if you want to keep the factory sub....

The CL doesn't, just the 6-speaker cabin. I think only the 04'+ TL does, but I may need to be corrected.

The 03 and down TL also had a sub with their bose system. I just assumed that the CL would've also.. Anyway, that should be a straight foward radio install then. Just power the power ant wire on the honda harness as an amp turn on and you should be good to go...

I have the stock system also and the cd player is crapped out. I want a nice aftermarket system, but I don't necessarily want to replace all the Bose speakers. I just want to find a radio with all the bells and whistles that looks nice in the dash. That is a lot of real estate to fill. Anyone got any photos of an install that looks fantastic?

I am going to get a "PAC OEM-2" Kit also. Is a Line out converter. For stock bose to aftermarket amp or aftermarket stereo to stock amp. Is going to take a week or so until it arrives and I have all the wiring diagrams for the system. If anything installed this please post back for everyone.

What I did was cut the yellow wire from the car harness(remote wire for Bose Amp) and connect it to the remote wire from the aftermarket head unit.

Thx for the heads-up. I'm doing this mod this weekend.
I got the Pioneer Avic-F700BT for cheap ($325) from my neighbor's lease return.

Replacing old bose head unit to an after market.

Hey guys i have a 2000 tl with a stock bose audio, its nice but i want to upgrade. I read some previous threads and someone mentioned that you have to rewire the stock bose sub for the new head unit. Does that mean that the sub wont work period or i just wont be able to control it? I also want to put in a new amp, but keep the old speakers for a while. what should i get? how many channels? and approx what should i spend?

1) sub won't work and neither will steering wheel controls.

2) no point in buying a amp until you buy speakers to upgrade the system.
