UK- Amp install advice

Hey guys im posting from the UK, Great site btw
I've got a '05 accord which is the same as the TSX.

Anyway i've already have a amb/sub installed via the high level but it sounds shyt tbh, i want to be rid of the stock amp.

I have the premium sound with navi, alpine made.

You guys have a lot floating around from Eldude and the mercman harness which is now no more.

In regards to this post from Eldude

https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/instructions-install-shop-preamp-output-300209/

How much is still current, as it has a mod post stating its innacurate? The wiring does match the same as our audio diagrams and im sure its the same setup.

As its a 4 ch out put from H/U how do i maintain the 4 speaker setup and add the sub signal?

Anything else/ oe new i need to know?

Thanks in advance

Are you just adding a sub or are you replacing the factory amp with an aftermarket set up?

In fact come to think of it it'll be all aftermarket save the H/U, so it'll be two amp's a mono amp to the sub, and a smaller amp to power stock rear door, and comps up front.

6x9's will be binned.

You can’t connect the Alpines to the factory HU unless you convert the balanced audio signals to unbalanced. You can get aftermarket amps with balanced inputs but I’m not sure what is available on your side of the pound.

I did suspect this, i will need to convert using a balun right?
I'm not too clued up on this subject do you have any read up you can recommend.
What would be the outcome of running a balanced signal into an unbalanced receiver?

That aside then guys, would i still be following Eldude article on the wire up?
Splitting the rear speaker signal to also drive the sub?

If you try to connect the balanced HU to an unbalanced input it will “squeal like a pig”, just ask anyone who has tried it.

cool so how can i work around this and keep my amp, i would need a balun that you no no longer make.

What aftermarket devices are their to over come this imbalance in connections, I know the JL is differencial balanced but i want to try and avoid investing in a new amp if possible.

I've searched for various bal-unbal converter but all are xlr-to rca? not intended for car use, any recommendations

It’s not that I no longer make the stuff, it is just that I don’t sell it on AZ anymore.

Mercman YHPM,

Another question to eveyone is, can i tap in to the rear feeds to the amp from the h/u to drive subs only. While leaving the amp etc connected, thus driving the reardoors off stock amp.

I already using the high inputs for the subs but sounds terrible.

sounds like you want to keep stock headunit. and add a sub? what I did was get a line drop and splice it onto the wires to the stock sub.

Where i stand at the mo is, i've added a alpine sub and 605 mono amp to the stock system taking the feed from the rear channel from the HU. Sounds good, now just need to get some comps upfront to fill in the imbalance. This i'm hoping won't induce any noise.

Q-Question, where do people ground the amp in the back? Its hard finding a good ground in these cars?
