if he ever gets into a bad accident he'll wish he still had his airbags
speaking of bad accident, my friend lost control of his moms van and hit a tree on the interstate and the airbags didnt go off. IT was a new oldsmobile van, kid broke his femur, wrist, shoulder plate and much mroe. His paretn sued olds and they are paying for hospital cost and therpy
see that is what is wrong with the world today.... everybody is sueing everybody.... i mean you cant do **** without someone wanting to sue you for doing it.... if you get in an accident and you are not permanently injured why not just get the doctor bills and car paid for why you have to sue them for all they have.... everyone in this world is looking for a quick way to get rich instead of doing it the old fashion way... (work hard, save money...etc.)...... ok i am done now.... just my opinion....
oh and one other thing.... most people that have tv's in there car dont even watch them that much it is just there as a status symbol.....

shawhite,
You have NO IDEA how hard I have worked to get where I am today... and it still isn't that far. I was using a "FIGURE OF SPEECH" to indicate how oppossed I am to the idea of someone watching TV while driving down the freeway. It's bad enough watching people in your rearview mirror distracted on cell phones, or chick's doing their makeup... now TVS!!! NO!!!!!
Unlike most members on this board, I HAVE EARNED MY MONEY (AND CAR) THE OLD FASHIONED WAY. I am not in highschool, I am not in my 20s, I am not in my 30s, I am not in my 40s... I bought this car for my 50th birthday... OK!... It took me that long driving "beaters" in my life to finally get to the point of affording such a nice car. I haven't been away from a FULL TIME job for more than 2 weeks at a time since I was 16 years old... Don't preach to me about working for a living! You should know me better than that... How much input have I given to this board? And what do I ask in return? All I ask in return is respect... Sorry I'm pissed off right now, but I don't need ANYONE, especially somebody in a BENZ (who probably takes it for granted) to be watching TV INSTEAD OF THE ROAD! They do it for status???? Like I said, they are the ones who need to try a little hard work and become humbled. I've got a very close friend who was and is still paralyzed in a car accident by some "looky-lou" behind the wheel... twenty years of medical payments have still not allowed her to walk on her own...
I have NEVER sued anyone and I don't think I'll start now... I just want an even chance to stay alive!
Sorry for the unsportsman like rant... I apologize to those I have offended... It's not my style, I'm here to help. However, this particular subject/post struct a personal nerve. Sorry about that... We all have our days... The Dolphins just got trounced

DEFINITELY can be done with the air bag still in tact and functional. The whole cover would still flip open like normal and the airbag will deploy as intended if done correctly.
And for all those who say they "Won't watch it while driving", trust me, YOU WILL!

Hey Southbound,
Because someone is in high school and drives a TL doesn't mean they didn't "earned the money and the car the old fashioned way". I am 17 and a senior in high school and I drive a 1999 TL. I worked my ass off and bought the car I wanted. Do not stereotype people.

hey steeteffectz just out of curiousity how much would you charge for a job like that (putting the tv in the steering wheel)....and i know if you do it the work would definately be top notch... still waiting for the site to come up so i can see some of your new installs....
I was just in my room sitting and thinking about what southbound said. WHy would u put a TV in the strering for status. I believe status is earned from hard work not bought. When I get Tv its gonna be in the headrest.

Thanks dnd...
Sorry to the rest of the board for losing my cool, and making this seem like a personal issue among us. We are all part of club CL/TL-CLS/TLS. It's none of my business how someone acquires their ride, and I too, agree that there are way too many frivilous law suits in this country.
However, one must take responsibility for their actions or stupidity... If somebody thinks it's cool to have a TV in their steering wheel, then they are going to have to suffer the consequences when they turn that into a traffic accident. That's all that I was trying to say.
I'm not here to say who should or shouldn't watch too much TV, but like I said before, if somebody is doing something stupid like watching "The Simpsons" instead of the road, then they will have hell to pay... (Nothing personal here, this time, I'm just speaking in generalities)
It's one thing to put screens in the back of the headrests for the kids or passengers. Hell, that way, people aren't always fighting over "shotgun"... they may want to trade off and sit in the back for a change. But in the steering wheel???? That just scares me...
NOW WHAT WOULD BE COOL... would be to have the screen tied into a security type interlock with the key or ECU, so that the screen will not power up while the car is turned on and in gear. But, Feel free to watch the football game or a DVD on your steering wheel while the wife is in the store shopping... or while your sitting with the car in park having lunch, etc. NOW THAT I COULD HANG WITH
Even though the Navi spot still makes more sense...
Just so I've made myself clear... THERE SHOULD BE NO ENEMIES ON THIS BOARD! I'm sorry for coming off so defensive from the initial post. Tell you guys what... I won't call any of the young guys "BOY", if none of you call me "OLD MAN". I'm on this audio forum because I still love to crank my music... although it's probably not the same as the younger crowd listens to. "I know, it's only rock and roll... but I like it, I like it... yes I do"...
P.S. I have tickets to see the Stones for two venues next month in L.A. and Vegas, and I still know how to party!
Are we all cool now?
PEACE!

When my parents where lookin at the lexus LX470 the navi system can play dvd's but only when tranny is in park. I think u should be able to tie somthing like that so any tv in the driver eye range will stay off until car is in park.

Southbound,
I'm glad to hear that you can still hang. It's good to be able to voice ones opinion and not get crucified for doing so. I'm amazed that there are young people out there that see the same value we see in our cars. You have to admit the TL is not the most common car for anyone under 25 its more of a family sedan. I see so many hooked up civics, eclipses and integras that seeing some of the mods that you guys come up with pumps me up and I can't wait to start hooking up my TL.
The first mod I would like to do and I know I'm not alone is the Nav to Video conversion,

How about installing a small camera in the front grill pointed at the road ahead... Then feed it to the monitor as "picture in picture":wow:
You could still watch music videos and "Keep your eyes on the road... your hands upon the wheel"... But somehow I think you'd still end up with a short life span like Jim Morrison... But EVEN I like the look of that pic Streeteffectz posted

Why would anyone install a scrreen in the steering column? That's ugly as hell...and what if the screen doesn't flip but flies straight into your face as the airbag deploys? Who had done tests that would show 100% that it'll flip ?
The actual mount in the steering wheel is NOT ALTERED. When an airbag deploys, the face of the wheel (where the horn is), flips open, that's what it's designed to do. Since this mount is not changed at all, it will definitely still flip open.
No offense to anyone on the forum. but I like the idea of having a TV in the steering wheel. I think if someone was using their car for show purposes it's a great idea. Just because someone has a TV in their steering wheel doesn't mean they are going to use it while driving. What's the difference between someone watching TV while driving or someone putting on make-up, reading the newpaper, or even picking their nose while looking in the mirror. Believe it or not that person watching TV while driving could actually be a safer driver than lets say a 70 year old woman than can't see over the steering wheel. I think it's all a matter of opinion. Don't get upset over someone elses choice. Everyone has the right to do whatever they want to their car. You can B*tch when you actually are involved in an accident. I'm sure you chances of being in an accident are much greater for the reasons I listed above compared to someone looking at @ monitor while driving...
I know this is an old post, but I had to get my opinion out there.

Southbound, I am sure no one here holds a grudge. But, I agree with you 100%. TVs in steering wheels should be a NO, NO.
Let me tell you all how cool it is to have it in. Two years ago, 2-year-old son, a 4-month pregnant wife and myself were on a traffic light, when this car approaching me on an apposite side, lost control, span out and smacked into me. The guy was doing 40, approaching a traffic light and watching his new TV in his goddamn steering wheel.
Results; My son had both legs broken, wife had to have a reconstructive surgery done to her forehead after going through a windshield and spent months in a hospital under supervision and being treated for a high risk pregnancy and I had three broken ribs, dislocated shoulder and still, after 2 years need a surgery on my knee.
When we went to court and the judge asked the kid what could possibly distract you in the night and in the rain while you are approaching a red light, he says: ‘I just had a TV put in a steering wheel and I just wanted to see how it works’
Want to talk about a silence in a courtroom.
The bottom line is, some people could afford an Acura, some a Mercedes; some work for their cars and some will always drive DADDYlacs. Regardless of what it is you are driving and what you did to get it, RESPECT YOUR RIDE. You want to watch a TV, stay home or ride in a back.

Speaking about being too quick to sue....some guy I know is suing Lexus for $1.5 million b/c his airbags didn't deploy during an accident. Here's the catch, he was T-boned and bounced upwards hitting his head on the roof and messing his neck up. I don't see how front airbags deploying would have helped him out in a T-bone situation.
Depends on monitor....framed usually run $150 per headrest, unframed (raw modules) usually run $250 per headrest (since we make new leather covers).
By framed, do you mean those monitors with the bezel/case? I like the screens that are by themselves(less clutter)...so those run $250? Why is there a need to create a new cover if there is no frame for a monitor?
