TV Tuner/DVD AVElectronic Question:
Are a majority of installers using the FM Modulator or is there a way to install (specifically) into the XM Radio?
Did anyone try putting monitors in the headrests yet? If so, what did you install? Any overhead monitors??

from what i understand many will disconect the navi that's in the trunk and use those wires and plug it into the avelectronic box. from the box you use another set of wires and re-plug the navi. the box itself gives you another 2-3 inputs so you can add a dvd player, xbox or ps2, etc. dunno how good the fm modulator is but a friend of mine used it for his ipod and it was just terrirble so he ended up pluging it into his aux. he doesn't have a TL though, he has a GS300. so if my hunches are correct about how to install the avelectronic box then it should be easy. can someone please confirm this.
also other threads say that they didn't add monitors on the headrest coz of how it tilts. someone did install an overhead monitor if you search for it you can find the thread

i have 2 headrest hooked up to a ps2 and an xbox but i had to use wireless fm modulator, it sounds great at times and horrible at others, i hear static, dont like one bit, im waiting for someone to come out with an adapter so i can plug it into the xm port and still have xm capabilities, until than i have to wait
I received this email from BLITZSAFE a couple of weeks ago!
WE might have one in a few weeks. We are receiving some interfaces from a partner company. But we have to test the Items to make sure they are up to Blitzsafe standards.

HI:
I am going to be purchasing an avelectronic kit to convert my NAV into a TV tuner and have the capability of connecting my PS2, etc in my 04 Acura TL. Their website (www.avelectronic.com) recommends the Blitzsafe adapter so that the sound doesn’t have to be FM modulated. I was really bummed to see you guys don't have an AUX adapter available…yet. Do you have any firm or tentative schedule on when you will be releasing one for an 04 Acura TL? Or are you guys going to be releasing one at all?
Thanks!
MINE IS FM MODULATED RIGHT NOW ALSO. There is a way to do it now with an adaptor from another company, can't remember off hand. However, it is NOT plug-n-play and you will lose your XM and have to cut wires, etc.
I will patiently wait for Blitzsafe to bring their adaptor out. In the meantime, I am trying to find the best price on the Myron & Davis 8" replacement headrests with the 16:9 monitors built right in!!! That way i dont have to cut the factory headrests, and they are a direct fit replacement!! Does anyone know of any other company besides Myron & Davis that make replacement headrests with monitors already in them that match factory leather interiors?

thx vegas_tl04 that cleared up some of my questions. so the fm modulator is used for the sound and that blitzsafe kit is for the aux in the back of the head unit so it can be used w/ the avelectronics box right?
the AVelectronics "box" comes with an FM modulator already installed. You simply run two wires from the avelectronics tuner box to the back of the Acura head unit and plug them in. Eventually, the BLITZSAFE adaptor will plug into the back of the head unit/deck and provide an AUX INPUT in which the sound will greatly improve over the FM modulation. For me, the corresponding FM channel to hear the sound through the AVelectronics box is 88.1FM for the FM modulation. Once I have successfully installed the BLITZSAFE adaptor, there will be no more need to use the FM modulation feature on the tuner box, the sound will be selectable through the head unit on one of the inputs (not sure which one yet) and the sound will be awesome!
hope that clears things up.

ive already got the kit installed =) Did it last weekend!!! I highly recommend purchasing the TL Service Manual for 2004. It was 70 bucks, but well worth it. Explains with words and pics how to remove every single piece of the car, screw sizes, tips, etc. I think the biggest pain in the ass was taking the aluminum trim strips off that start near the HVAC controls and end at the armrest of the console....very tricky, careful not to damage it! Go to your Acura's onwers link page to order service manuals through HELM, or just go directly to HELM'S Website!!
Good luck...
Good luck...
yep..you kinda gotta look closely tho..i think go to the FAQ section and there is a thread there in the Owners link about how to buy replacement OWNER'S MANUALS. then it will take you to HELM's website where you can by the service/repair manual!!
hey vegas, i assume you bought it from helm inc. the dealer quoted me $83 for it which may be the same if i were to order form helm (+tax and shipping) but shipping is 10-15 days. how long did it take for you to get your manual?
i bought it from helm thru the owner's link website. it took about 6 days. they have options for shipping like Next Day air and all that too! It was about 80 bucks after all was said and done with shipping, etc. Priceless tool to have tho IMHO...wouldve been worth over 100 bucks...saves alot of guesswork!
cool i'm gonna order mine right now. should be a fun project adding an amp. i'll probably need a whole weekend just to do it. i never did any installs on a car before so hopefully this manual helps. i wanna learn my car like i know computers so i can just take things apart, put it back together and do troubleshooting.

Yep..theres definitely a stock amp. And, my guess is you do NOT want to remove that either. That amp is what distributes the 5.1 DVD-A sound through all of the channels. I am not by any means a wizard with car audio, but I am pretty sure you would add an ADDITIONAL amp to power some subs, etc.
actually i wanted to give more power to the stock speakers. i wanted to see if it will make a difference coz it doesn't get loud enough for me. i mean i had a civic before this w/ 2 12"s sony, polk audio speakers and tweeters, 2 amps. the stock system is great but i don't listen to music that actually take advantage of 5.1. i'd never heard anyone say "damn you gotta check out how Jay-Z or Biggie sounds in my stock 5.1 surround sound TL". lol i may add another amp and sub if i'm not satisfied.
hmm this may add a problem. ordered the manual though and it was around $80 like you said it would be so i'm gonna check that out. does it say anything about the HU and speakers like how many watts and ohms. didn't see it in the ELS site.
