TL: Transponder Key Button?
First off, I've had my 2003 Acura 3.2 TL Type-S Aspec for about 2 years now and have used this site extensively for all my repairs. Thanks to everyone who posts here for that! This time, I have a question I haven't found anywhere so I joined.
I am planning on installing a remote starter soon. I am a total beginner with a lot of determination who thinks he's got it pretty much figured out now. One of the last things bugging me before I start is regarding the transponder key, or lack of one.
Here's where I get to the point:
I bought my car second hand. On the keychain, I have a small black device that has just one button on it. If I want to start the car, I have to put the key in the accessories position (just before crank), press the button and then turn the key. The key alone doesn't do it.
I am worried that this is some sort of aftermarket add-on or perhaps "transponder key fix" that is going to cause me some added confusion when I go to install my remote starter.
My best guess is that this button is actually a transponder bypass of some kind. How would I find this though so that I can incorporate it into my remote starter? Anyone know where I should start on this and/or what this button most likely really is? Or, what can I test to find out?
Thanks!!!

Oh have mercy that's a weird setup there!
I think you're right; you got some kind of bypass or something. Either the previous key was lost and this was the "fix" or there's been some kind of modification done for "extra security."
Anyways, I don't know what to tell you other than perhaps calling up your local Acura dealer and explaining the situation. Maybe they can help or point you in the right direction. In any case, I would definitely get the ignition key working the way it's supposed to first before attempting any kind of remote start mod.
Others may have more experience and offer better advice, though.

Well, looks like you're the best Acurazine has to offer... :-)
thanks for the reply... I'm going have a look and see if I can find anything... would be nice if I've already got a bypass in there that I could wire my remote starter to...
