Time to change my HU

Alright, my stock HU finally gave up on me. My CD-R is stuck and it doesn't look like it's gonna come out. My only solution is to get aftermarket HU. I've been planning on doing this for awhile so here is my final choice. It all depends on what kind of deal i'm gonna get for it.

Alpine CDA-9830
Alpine CDA-9831

Now, my question is this. I'm planning on doing the installation by myself following this DIY.

Am I going to need anything else besides the metra kit? I don't think I can afford to get any customized kit from streeteffects due to my fund. Do alpine HU come with proper harness that I'm going to need?? Also, if there is anything I need to pay attention during installtion, please let me know. Thanks guys

Hi.

Sand the face the Metra kit. The stock finish sucks. Do a search on Metra and you should find some threads on that.

I assume you're planning on replacing the speakers too? You won't be pleased if you drive the stock speakers with your new Alpine.

2003, isn't that unit still under warranty?!

from what i know, you need the wiring harness as well as the metra kit. Talk to streeteffectz, im sure he can get hook you up on the whole package: HU, wiring harness, metra kit.

Like Derrick said, sand the metra kit down: 200grit, 400 grit, and then 800 grit. It comes out really close to the OEM dash material.

Yes, it's still under warranty but they won't do anything about it. They claimed that stock HU wasn't built to play CD-R's which I find it BS but oh well. Yes, I'm looking to replace speakers also but I started this thread to figure out what else I need to get on top of HU and metra kit. Is wiring harness something I can easily obtain at a retailer store??
