thinking of putting in a system?

I'm thinking about putting a system in my 99 tl. I am trying to decide between 2 12s or 2 15s, most likely some type-r's, either of which would be in a ported enclosure. Is there room in my trunk for 2 15s in a ported enclosure? also, when I replace my stereo with an aftermarket, will the steering wheel controls still be functionable? thanks for the help.

you probably won't be able to fit 2 15's ported in a trunk, especially not Type R's... IMO, type R's sound terrible anyway... just my though, there are a lot of people who will swear by them...

If you change your head unit to an aftermarket one (a good idea, and I wouldn't put in any kind of upgrade without it) you can get your steering wheel controls to keep working, you just need an extra harness to attach them...

What kind of budget are you working with? That will help everyone here help you on gear...

where can I find that harness? I have to buy it seperately, correct? I was hoping to fit a couple 15s, but I guess that might be a little to tight? What are some good 12s for spl that you would suggest? I just want the bass to hit hard. I'd be willing to spend up to around $200 per sub and $200-$300 for the amp. I'm also looking for a flip-out stereo with navigation, any thoughts on the Jensen VM9212N? obviously it's not the top brand name but I found it online for $419. I cant be spending much more than $500 on a stereo.

$500 total or $500 for just the hu? If you're thinking about $500 total, and you want a flip out dvd, then you obviously haven't done your homework... Flip out dvd screens are going to run up your budget right quick... Now, if you're talking $500 for just the hu, plus the extra $700 for amp and subs, you should be able to get a pretty solid system out of it...

On1wheel01 is selling his DC Audio lvl3 12's and amp for around $700, but I highly doubt that price is shipped... Those DC's should slam pretty good, if you're interested. Other brands I'd look at would be RE, RD, DC, DD (doubt you can get much for $200 from them, but you could probably get away with 1 of their subs), AQ (same as DD), Fi, Sundown, etc.

$500 just for the head unit. Could you spell those out all I know of from those is resonant engineering. and that was $200 per sub not for 2 subs I'm not sure if you understood.

You should be able to put quite a system together then. Resonant Engineering, Revolution Designs, DC Audio, Digital Designs, AudioQue, Fi Car audio and Sundown. And I got you on the $200 per sub, there isn't a whole lot from those companies that goes for less than that...

I'm looking at the AudioQue website, what are your thoughts on the Street Duty series? they seem to be listed at a pretty good price, what amp would work well with a couple of those 12s?

oh and yea I'd stay away from type r's they sound like trash once you enter the world of high end audio go with 2 12's unless you can do a 5 to 8 cube box for 2 15's they need at least 3 cubes a piece compared to 12's which need 1.5 to 3 a piece
