is there a double din under 500 that is good quality and has all features cept GPS?

I am stepping into the sea of aftermarket radios, and I am so confused. I am looking for a double din unit that has great sound quality, easy to use, has aux input, sub output, good bluetooth connectivity, and a nice touch screen. I don't really care about GPS but it would be nice. Anyone have any suggestions for units in this price range?

I just got a replacement oem unit, that was DOA, so I really need to get a stereo before I die of listening to local radio

i have been in the car audio field for several years and have owned my own shop. i will start out with the quote you get what you pay for. however pricing has gone down alot in the past few years. pioneer has a few models that would suit your needs and are within your price range. if you are not a pioneer fan i would recommend staying away from off brand units go with a reputable company.

I might be looking into this in the near future. Just now starting to do some research into what I'd want. I've been in & out of car stereo as a hobby for the past 22 years (damn that makes me sound old), so I'm not a complete dummy when it comes to this stuff. I have the capabilities to do a lot of this on my own, but actually considering saving up some cash and just walking into a reputable stereo shop in Houston area, and say "build me a complete stereo with $X amount!"

Any recommendations for the $500-1000 range double-din head units? I know Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood pretty well, and have even owned Eclipse stuff in the past. All quality. I still glance around Crutchfield here and there, but looking for other ideas too.

Thanks in advance!

I would asume you are trying to get a little more sound. if this is true then I would say have the shop you find replace the factory amp with a 2ohm stable 5ch amp and add a single 10" or 12" sub in the trunk and utilize the factory speakers. this will keep your cost down and sound really good.I have done this numerous time with tremendous satisfaction from my customers. I am actually utilizing the scenario in my 04 tl until I finish my complete jl overhaul

I 'm replacing the cheap Pioneer the PO had installed and wanted: Double-Din Two line display of Artist, Album, Song title of MP3s USB input on front Bluetooth and found the Alpine CDE-W235BT with Scosche harness and dash kit for $170 online. I have 67g of MP3s and this unit plays them from USB memory sticks. You can put about 100 CDs on an 8gig stick (about $7) and don't have to burn them to CD-R anymore. Within a few days I'll have it installed and will report on the sound and function.

The Pioneer AVH-P3200BT is $499 & actually really good and will satisfy your needs. But just like he said you get what you pay for. For instance if you were to get that one you won't have to ever get another one I've had that one for about 3 yrs now. No problems at all.

I second that on the AVH-P3200BT! I've had mine a little under a year and I'm loving it. I think I got it on sale for around 380 at BestBuy.

I prettty much run off my 16Gb SD card with it, and occasionally use the aux for online radio. Pandora blows these days...and I will never subscribe. There are so many other free radio apps to use.

It is wired to my steering wheel controls. The unit looks really sleek in our dash.

Never heard of Pioneer App Radio. I guess it's no good..

The Android market offers "upteen" apps for radio and pandora "like" apps minus the commercials and poor streaming quality.

The avh 4400 looks like a nice radio too, wireless streaming is a nice feature.

It seems to lack a front Aux input, front USB input, and SD card slot. AVH-P3200BT has these expandable features. It also allows for a rear camera input.

In the end to each his own, I just feel that the AVH-P3200BT is a more versatile radio.

I'm actually selling a nice double din Pioneer, has everything except bluetooth, which you need to buy the add-on adapter for, if anyone is interested, let me know

Forgot about this thread!

Anyway, yes I'll be going for a good bit more sound actually. As in windows down on the freeway and still loud & clear sound. Hoping and wanting to replace everything factory, and go with mid- to high-end speakers in the cabin, and a single JL Audio 13W7 sub with JL amps. Haven't decided on which head unit, but it'll be a double with Bluetooth (no desire for GPS, phone works fine for that) and DVD, mkst likely. Also be putting as much Dynomat in as I can. My factory HU just jammed in the CD changer recently, and HATE Houston radio so this little project may be starting sometime soon. Any input is greatly appreciated.
