Acura TL 2004 Aux-Input Solutions??

Well i got the following response from soundgate regarding their SNHOND3 compatibility with the Acura OEM Radio.

> I have a non -navigation Acura TL 2004 and would like to add a line input to
> hook up an iPOD. Can your SNHOND3 do that?
> I also heard of some discrepancy that the adapter does not work 100%.. can
> you confirm this before I purchase one? thanks

> Yes that unit is not compatible will the new TL.
> Joe Hobart
> Soundgate

> Are you guys working on a compatible unit for the Acura TL 2004? If so, when
> would it be available?
> Thank you

At this point we are not Acura will need to have a few more cars with that
radio in it to make it worth the engineering time to do this.
Sorry
Joe Hobart

He says a "few" more cars. I think we gotta wait longer =(
Any other companies that may be making a unit like this??

Woohoo, good news =)

I got an email response from www.autotoys.com saying that their HONDA AUX INTERFACE ACCORD 2003+ & 2004+ (FOR 03+ ACCORDS and 04+ TSX) #200 (link here: http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/HO...d_0_p_200.html )

Has anyone bought or installed this to see if it works??

Do you have XM Radio? If so you can interface relays to interupt the XM audio. I have
done this on a number of AVElectronic tuners for audio.

yeah. XM is present on ALL 04 TL. I don't mind exchanging XM for Aux Input.

you can use a couple relays to switch between the 2. you do not need to give anything up.

hmm so I don't even need an adapter?? just relays ??
I thought the XM unit is built into the radio, meaning the only input is from the XM antenna.

Have you done this on the 04 TL?

Yes, I have done this 4 times already. I have only done them for AVElectronic units. All sources are going to be different so depending on your source, the volume could be low. You also may need a ground loop isolator for noise but this is case by case. The volume is great with a AVElectronic tuner. The switcher volume is lower.

Where are you located? This is something I'd like to do in my 2004 Accord with navigation.

Do you have XM radio? You need that because that is how you will tap in to the audio.

I want aux input ONLY. I don't need an avalectronic unit for video since I don't have navigation on my car. If i tap into the XM input just using relays is it doable.

Yes, as long as you have XM you can tap in with 2 double throw relays, power and a switch.

I tap into the wires at the XM unit in the trunk. I believe it is red, black, green and white.
You can easily tell because they are in a shielded cable.

When you say "tap in" how exactly do you get the signal into those wires? Would you treat each of the four as a positive or negative and solder them to line level adapters for the audio input?

The colors are for left, right, + and -. You need to interupt them and tap in your audio source. When you turn the relays off, the original wires connect once again allowing the XM to work as usual. You need to tap in using some sort of audio cable like a cut RCA.

red - left
black - right
green - + (+12V)
white - - (ground)

If this works it would be the cheapes aux input solution ever =) Is the audio quality just as good as an aux input adapter? I assume it is if you do nice job soldering, insulating and all that.

Can you confirm on the wiring above? I assume the left and right are the signal wire. The ground would probably connect to the -?

I didn't really understand either. The signal has to have a + and -. So I don't think what moahdib is correct although i don't know either. I think what jt is saying is something like

red=left +
black=left -
green=right +
white=right -

Could you let us know?
Thanks again

I have the AVElectronic video switcher in my 04 TL, my friend at the audio shop said when he tried putting it through the XM radio, it was way too low...and got lots of engine feedback...we have it connected through an FM modulator...but still some engine feedback...ANY TIPS? I would rather it work through the XM radio than FM modulator...PLEASE HELP!

Thanks,
Mike

The switcher has a very low output. You might want to try a line booster like the PAC Turbo 1 (pac-audio.com) As for the noise, you can use a SNI-1 also from PAC or most any ground loop isolator.

what if you didnt use the switcher and just hard wired some rca's to feed the head unit? if you were using a component that didn't have a gain control, then go with the pac. i would imagine a carputer would be adjustable through the sound card volume. what level/quality of signal does the xm radio provide that a component added to the car would need to match?

Yeah, the AVElectronic tuner volume is great because it has a volume control with much more output. But the switcher is lower and the XM input is not very sensitive. Carputer probably would be fine.

The link to the jpeg does not work. Can someone please repost? I'm trying to wire one of these $20 blue tooth adapters in.
