well i have an alpine head unit and i'm pretty sure thats what died on me. its strange though because my sub is still functioning, so all i hear is the bass from the sub. all my door speakers put out nothing. anyways, i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and can comment about what's going on. i have a warrenty through ultimate electronics, so i think i'll have them send in the alpine HU in to hopefully get fixed. thanks.

 

So your front & rear comp's are amplified through the head unit? Sometimes the crossovers can go bad which happened to me before, but I question if both front and rear would go bad at the same time. Try bypassing the crossover and connect one of the mids up front directly to the HU and see if you get sound. If you dont then you know for sure that it is the HU.

May I suggest an external amp for your comp sets. This leaves the HU to do what it was indeaded for...to be the brain of your system not the amplifier.
