I read it and it helped a little, but I still need a little bit of input. For example, the Amp LP Filter. I need to know what that should be set at, and what it even means.

The LP (Low Pass) Filter is like a frequency cutoff as far as i understand. You should set that so that your sub only plays the frequencies it is set to and below. You will have to set it to your liking, but i think it is usually set around 100Hz.

Thats the lowpass slope. If its set to 24db the low pass is automatically mono.Used for the sub.

ok, so shoud it be set to 24db then? As I said above, it's currently set to off, and I can hear both bass and music coming from the sub.

bumpin'

To add to this, I'm kind of curious/worried about the boost. People are saying I'm crazy for having the boost at full, however that's what the installer put it at. Does the bass knob I have installed have to do with the boost? Because the bass knob goes to 8db at full, 0db in the middle and - infinity at the other end. Sometimes, when I play certain songs, the sub just doesn't sound right. However most of the time, it sounds great.

I'm glad that the mods paid attention to my simple request of a title change...

anyhow, people keep saying shit about how my gain is all the way up. To note once again, I do have a bass knob installed. Can someone please explain to me how it works?

Let's see if I can get this straight...

I'm assuming this is how it works. Ok, so the bass knob that I have goes from - infinity at the left, 0db in the center, and 8db at the very right. He set the bass boost to 15+ on the amp, which doesn't set the boost at all. All it does is that when the bass knob is at the full 8db, it will produce the full 8db. If the amp were set at 10db and I had the bass knob at 8db, it would technically be 2/3 of 8db, which is like 5.5db?

or...

Is it that if I have the amp set to 15+, and I have the bass knob at 8db, it's actually producing 15db boost? And when I have it at like 4db on the bass knob, it's like 7.5db from the amp?

as I've mentioned before, sometimes if I'm playing my shit pretty loud, the sub doesn't sound right on certain songs. I've heard the term clipping before and that it supposedly is bad. Can you please clarify this to me?

Are you sure that is compatible with the amplifier? Well, from what i know, the BassKnob overrides the setting on the amp as long as its plugged in, but i dont know if that's the case for yours. Does it seem like the bass knob is working?

yeah the bass knob works just fine...but what does the bass knob override? The input sensitivity? Or the Bass Boost? And if it overrides the bass boost (which goes up to 15db on the amp), does it only go to 8db now since that what it says on the bass knob?

the knob overrides the BassBoost setting on the amp. I dont know exactly how many db though because your knob is different than the one that is supposed to be used w/that amp. but it should be functional upto 15

If it's set to 15dB, it's 15dB all the time at the center frequency. Can't tell from the pic, but that PAC level controller has RCA inputs/output in the back? It doesn't connect to your remote bass port, that's clear from your other pics, so it has no impact upon the gain or the boost settings on the amp. Take a pic of the back of the controller (with a flash), I'm pretty sure it's basically a line driver, so it wouldn't be surprising if you're clipping the input when you turn the knob to 8dB. Are your current settings the same as the pics on the first page of this thread?

I'd suggest getting and RBC-1 instead of the remote you have now

sorry guys, I kinda passed out for a little bit...

Anyways, when I got the stuff installed, I talked to him about the RBC-1 that JL offers, and he told me that it technically isn't a "Bass knob" and that I shouldn't get it.

Spoon - as for the settings, I have changed them since then after doing some reading. I will take some pics and be right back...

I dont think your installed knew what he was talkin' about. I think your "bass knob" is just some offboard signal booster of somesort. Maybe it is messing with the frequencies more than it shou.d I suggest you disconnected it for a bit and see how it sounds without it.

I second this. I can clearly see four wires and I'm going to assume that all four have RCA connectors at the end. It doesn't connect to the bass port on the amp and since I don't see any power/ground leads I'm gonna guess the "only" things in that housing are a transformer and a variable resistor, but I'm not an electrical engineer. Any event I wouldn't use it and I still suspect that your overloading the input stage of the amp when you turn it up. You could try reducing the gain though, unless it's already at the min, can't tell from the pic. As for the JL knob not being a bass knob, I'm not familiar with their products, but this is definitely not a bass knob (whatever that means in a generic sense) - you could use it for any amp, or if you had two amps and two of these you could level match with them (don't). It's more of a "volume" knob than anything. I took a look at JL's site, have you seen these pages, they might be helpful to you.
