"sweet spot" time correction
hey guys,
I've seen a few head units lately coming out with a "sweet spot" adjustment -- namely alpine. Basically, it does time correction to compensate for the fact that your speakers are unequally spaced from your ears. Anyway, since I blew a chunkload of money for my kenwood HU a while back, I'm not about to blow another chunkload on an alpine 'yet' So I was wondering maybe if there is an aftermarket addon , such as an EQ or an amp with time correction type thing, that will solve my issues. I was kinda searching on google but wasn't too successful. There were some professional ones that will probably cost more than just straight up buying the alpine HU
maybe streeteffectz have seen one of these more "economical" ones that work? or am I asking for something that just doesnt exist?
thanks

Alpine used to make one of the coolest time correction units called the PXA-H600 that used a microphone to determine exact speaker distances and time/phase correction. You can probably find one used somewhere online as I don't believe they are made anymore . Alpine also made a bit cheaper version called the PRA-H400 but you had to measure distances from speakers to seating position. Both should do the trick!
Hope that helps...

that thing costs TWELVE HUNDRED at carstereotime.com !! and they're usually 'cheap' .. but I've seen it at another place for like 900 ish .. not what I'm looking for a little too extreme for me. for that, I'd get the ones built into their head units .. but thanks for the tip!

:wow:... i just saw a H600 on ebay for about $500... H400 you may be able to get for around $300... they are well worth the extra if you're looking for the good stuff as the ones in the headunits are set generic for any car/speaker combo whereas the alpines are customizable for the little tweaks of your car (speaker placement, size, type, acoustic differences, etc...).
to each their own though, i never did like those time correction units... my old EQ (pio deq-7200 i think) had it built in... it lasted for a week before i ripped it out
good luck! -Ryan

Yeah Pioneer makes a nice DSP unit that has the adjustable delays. You could go with a DEP940MP head unit that has the DSP functionality (fully adjustable) built in. It also plays MP3s and WMA audio files, which basically makes a CD changer obsolete. You can put tons of MP3s on a 700mb CDR.... Heck you could put every album from a single group on to maybe one or two CDRs max. Try doing that with a changer!
