Suggestions please?
I am looking at starting the bottomless pit that is doing away with with the Bose system and building my own SPL system. Here are the products I already have that I intend on using:
JBL GTX47 4ch Crossover w/ imaging enhancer
Clarion APX 400.4 100x4ch amp (i would rather kepp all the amps the same but I can't find any decent 4ch amps that push 100w rms)
I would prefer to keep all products with in the Alpine/Infinity/Polk/Audiobahn/MTX brands (i work with circuit city so guess why i want to stay with them. . .)
here is what I was thinking so far:
Headunit- something from either Pioneer or Alpine
Interior speakers- either Polk db Series 6.5 compnents, or Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.25 components all the way around
Sub- I know I only want a single 12 in a sealed box. I am thinking maybe Infinity Kappa Perfect, Alpine SWR 1241D, or an Audiobahn
Amps- this is where I am really unsure what to do. I would just as soon not have to get three 2ch amps, but I am just unsure what to get.
Any suggestions with any of this?

here is my suggestion... alpine everything.. ditch the jbl amp and get an alpine... alpine headunit... alpine components up front.. alpine coxials in the rear... alpine amps... alpine sub.... spend the money the 1st time you might not have to redo it for a couple of months.. lol...

Shawhite has a great idea. An all Alpine setup would look and could sound great. All the Type R speakers and the new amps would mesh great together. I like the idea.

I agree that an all Alpine system is definitely not a bad way to go. Take a look at their Type X SPX-177A comps for the front. I considered them as a potential replacement for the Image Dynamics Chameleons but opted for the JBL 608GTi comps instead.
I too had thought of an all Alpine system but I think the new GTi stuff from JBL is the direction I'm taking....for now

I know I am not going to use any alpine speakers (other than maybe the swr-1241d sub) b/c for the same price that I get them for I could be getting the infinity kappa perfect components. I am also not sold on their v12 amps. I like the F1 status stuff, but that is far too expensive. As for the JBL GTX47 Crossover, that is going in no matter what. I have used it in several systems and it is just amazing when you hit switch for the imaging enhancer to kick in.

circuit city don't offer alpine type X to customers or employees because they don't qualify to sell them, i have the spx177a for the rear and spxf17t for the front, i have alpine all the way too in my tl, even the old school 8081 alarm, lots of money but is worth it, it took me almost one year to finish because of my work schedule. you can see pic of my all alpine system in here:

I swear, does no-one here know what the JBL GTX47 4 channel crossover/imaging enhancer is?
Anyway I have decided strictly against using alpine speakers. I am thinking I may go with the Kappa Perfects for all the speakers, but i haven't decided if i want to stick with the Clarion amps I already have or possibly switch to something else.

well it sounds like you have you mind made up... why are you asking peoples opinions if you have already decided what you are using.. but alpine speakers are 10x better than infiniti speakers or jbl... and clarion amps are ok.. but why not keep it uniform and go all alpine... yes it will be a little more expensive but well worth the money.. i can already see that you will be upgrading shortly after you install your system..

The infinty kappa perfect 5.1 components have a 2.25in mounting depth on the woofer. so it will fitt, although it may need a slight bezzle. I still haven't decided on what amps I would like to look at. I am considering Audiobahn, Memphis, JBL, or Rockford but i'm not sure.

I have not heard the Perfects but, I have always loved the Kappa's. If they are better than the Kappa, I think you would love them.
I have never used or heard Audiobahn or Memphis amps, both are supposed to be pretty good. JBL and Rockford both offer alot of bang for the buck. The JBL 80.4 and one of their sub amps, 150.1, 300.1, 600.1 or 1200.1, put those together and I think you would have a great setup. And the JBL amps are less expensive than the Memphis and Rockford, not sure about the Audiobahn.

infinity kappas i prefer over the alpine type R's. only thing i don't like of the kappas are the tweeters, but thats just me. u probably like tin-canned sound instead of soft smooth high's.
if u can get the JBL wGTI-series sub, then get it. well get what u like. less distortion than the alpine type R, MTX 9500, etc
some will argue though
