subs and amps
Ok so I've found that the rear speakers are a "sub" channel from the stock amp. My question is if you can simply disonect the speakers and use the wire for a sub amp input? is this signal going to be very clean? is a true low freq signal or am i going to have to use a low pass crossove in the amp? has anyone done this? thanks for any help you guys can give me.

The rear deck speakers are said to be crossed over, but who knows at what frequency. You might want an amp with a built in crossover so you can tune it better.
thats what im thinking about doing but i dont know how clean the signal coming to the 6x9's is. some of the high end subs require a real clean signal or else you run the chance of blowing them. anyone done this yet?
Well, if you are thinking of taking the leads from each 6x9 and using them as inputs from each coil, you will have horable results. The signals to the 6x9 are stereo, the signals sent to each voice coil must mach exactly.
You can use both as inputs to an amp, but make sure the amp is in mono mode, so the signals are combined into one correctly. Just what ever you do, dont wire the voice coils in stereo!

I'm planning on doing this as soon as I can figure out how to run the power cable from the battery to the trunk. I'm going to remove the 2 rear speakers so that the low frequencies from a single 10" in a sealed box will channel through the 2 empty mounting holes on the rear shelf I am going to take the high level signals from both sides and run it through a line level converter which will also provide a 12v signal to turn on the amp. From the converter, the left and right sides will be connected to an external crossover which will sum the inputs into mono and then onto a bridged sub amp. Now, anyone know an easy way to run that darn cable?
Weasel...
There is really no easy way to run the cable to the back. My suggestions are to run the shortest lenght you can to get the best power to the amp. I ran mine through the fire wall (don't forget a rubber grommet) then down the drivers side kick panel along the drivers side (battery side) and right against the rear seat. You can pull the seat up and it makes it a lot easier.

So what you guys are saying is that you can just disconect the two 6x9's and use that speaker wire as input into an amp?
This means that the 6x9s wont run right?
And isnt there anyother way to get an rca in to the back of the car, this is the standard way right, i know the tsx stero dosent exactly have preamp outputs that are there for the using, but there is an amp in the car right?
SO what if you used a crossover right from the stero and then put the one output to the cars standard amp, and then had the other one run to the trunk for the amp for the subs. Will this work, is it a good idea?

You don't have to disconnect the 6x9's. All you have to do is splice into the wires going to the speakers and run those wires to a rca line converter.
Its actually easier to do this in the trunk because you won't have to run a long RCA cable from the dash like if you were to with an aftermarket deck.
Another tip is for a remote turn-on is to just check for a "hot -wire" near the rear of the car that only works when the ignition is on. Then you won't have to run that from the dash either. Basically the only this you need to run through the lenght of the car is a godd size power cable and the shorter the better that goes for the ground wire to the amp too.
Ok snoops you sound like you know what your doing,
basically i have this equipment from my old car.
1. Fosgate crossover
2. 1 infinity digital 1000 watt amp
3. 1 350watt kenwood amp
4. 1 box with 3 10" fosgate subs in it
5. 1 battery cap
whats the best way to hook this up. I dont mind taking the time to wire things under carpet or under panels etc, i want to do this right. I dont necessarily have to use all the above. I just want the subs in my new tsx. And your saying that splitting the wires going to the 6x9s will do the trick. Bc ive never heard of a speaker wire to rca converter.
Thanks for your help man. Or anyone elses.

So let me get this straight. Instead of running RCA's from the headunit like u would do with an aftermarket head unit, you can just either
1. take out the 6x9's in the rear deck and connect the signal to your amp as the input
2. keep the 6x9's and split the signal and use it as the input to your amp
if i did one of these would i need to use an RCA adapter or any thing to plug into the 6x9 stock signal to then plug into the amp RCA input ? or do i just directly wire it to the amp's input?
if someone has done this and it worked well or it worked at all please respond, because i think some peope are a bit confused here

This can be done...
There is a such thing as an RCA converter that you can pick up at any place that sells car stereo equipment "even Pep Boys". Then buy a box of wire splicers (the blue ones). You dont have to cut the wire to the 6x9's because these allow you to tap into the line without any cuts. Tap into the pos(+) and neg(-) wires and run speaker wire to whereever you decide to store the RCA converter, I have mine in the spare tire well. Then from the RCA converter run the RCA cable to the amp. I mounted my amp right on the spare tire well cover since it serves as a secure for my subbox from moving around in the trunk, thus not needing a long RCA cable.
I decided to take this route because I did not want to add an after market stereo and lose the clean appeal on the front deck. Another tip is to remove the rear deck 6x9's and leave the holes to serve as ports for the bass in the trunk. It makes a huge difference if you have enough power back there.
