alternative to 99tl stereo hu issues
ok, my tl sucks when it comes to playing cd-rs more advanced than 16x. i have 2 fixes in mind:
buy 16x cd-rs from God knows where
get a new hu or changer
as for buying new 16x cd-rs, does anyone have any specific site? cos i've tried to buy online on several occasions only to discover that what was sold was 48x or 52x, as opposed to the advertised 16x.
as for changing the hu, i'm skeptical about modifying the console, or removing the steering wheel features. it prolly boils down to the cost. has anyone changed the hu (not under warranty) or bought a changer? how much did it cost and how do u feel with the new mod?
thanks

I posed a similar question a few days ago, and no responses. I have been doing som research and a company called PAC makes a product SWI-X that will interface with a head unit with a wireless remote, then plug into the wires under your steering wheel and will allow you to use the new head unit with your old steering wheel controls. Nice. Tweeter will install it. As will circuit city, but it also comes with a wiring diagram if you feel comfortable doing it yourself. here is a link to it on crutchfield, but you can probably get it cheaper somewhere else.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VufucLO...SWIX&g=118900. as for head unit changes. thats up to you, but its not too expensive. depending on who installs, you can get a top of the line alpine (CDA9813) installed right now at CC for under 300

i would just replace the headunit. most aftermarket radios will work with the steering wheel controls with an adapter. the stock headunit blows. your other option is to find a 2003 TL headunit (indash 6 disc) and use that. it is a direct plug in.
