SUB ............... What siz to chose?

What size should I get for the CLS 10" or 12"?

I was told at Circuit City to get one 12" instead of two 10". What is a better set up?

If you were going to chose a brand name sub from this list, what would you pick? These are my choices.

Kenwood 10 or 12
Rockford " "
JBL GT " "
MTX 6000 " "
Polk Aud " "

Is there any adapter available other to avoid slicing the speaker cables to get some juice to the amp

LOL, one 12 over 2 10's? I'd FOR SURE go with 2 10's and none of the ones you have listed there.

I'd go with something like Alumapro, JL Audio, etc, etc, but of course, that's just my opinion.

As far as an adapter, you don't need to slice anything. You can tap right into the factory amp or the wires going to the rear speakers with out a problem at all. There is, however, a converter, I believe, that is used to bose systems.

As he says. The only reason to go with one 12 is for less money.

I've had both in my car...i do alot of switching around....and I liked my 12 better. It gave me MUCH better range of response, wich made all of the music I play sound alot better. The 10's were louder on certain frequencies, but didn't respond well on others.

My 12 might not have been as loud as the 10's most of the time, but it sounded a TON better!

What JL audio are we speaking about. W0,W1 or W3? What are the SPL on these speakers? I believe seeing some numbers around 85 and 87.
What about the Infinity or Kicker subs? I am looking for SPL greater than 89. The only ones that I have seen to be at that level for my budget are the JBL GT Series , Infinity Reference, Kenwood. These seem to work well in sealed boxes. I know that in seal enclosures the SPL are going to be somewhat lower but I need to get the best out of my Hafler Amp. Please help

this is not always true. i have both a 12 inch mtx (8000 series) in a q-logic box and 2 10 inch (4000 series in an mtx box) and the 12 inch costs about $100 more but sounds much better and has a lower frequency range. i like the 12 inch much better.....uses less trunk space, too.

Using two 10's will sound tighter (bass definition)and louder as you have more surface cone area with two 10's vs. a single 12". SPL only refers to "Sound Pressure Level"...I think you're referring to the efficency level of the sub. The higher the efficency (ie. 90+) it will take less power from your amplifier to drive them. I've heard the JL 10W6 (6ohm) and they sound awesome and they work in small sealed enclosures...the draw back is they are pricey.

And require a ton of power!! I'm running 3 10W6's with about 650W RMS and they still need more power. About 250 to 300 W RMS for each sub.

Are you set on two subs? I have a single RF-High Energy 10" sub driven by a RF 100W amp...It's more than enuf bass for me and I have to keep the gain turned down for it to sound decent. just my two cents...
