Sub setup for 04 TSX - port thru 6x9 openings?

Right now I have a ported f-glass box (about 2 cu ft) with 2 Image Dynamics 8's in the spare tire well, and it sounds very good (farily even, decent low-bass extension, though the car seems to like 50Hz for some reason )
I removed the stock 6x9's to help the bass come thru into the cabin; still, when I fold down the back seat, the bass is MUCH stronger. Now, I don't want to be folding down the back seat every time I get into the car to enjoy the bass. I was thinking about coming up with a bandpass (dual reflex possibly), for either the two 8's, or one 15, and porting directly thru the openings where the 6x9 speakers were, basically flaring out the port ends to be flush with the 6x9 openings, so all the bass is funneled into the cabin.
Has anybody tried this (not necessarily in a TSX...any sedan/coupe), and how did it turn out? Any other suggestions on firing direction, enclosure type, etc., to best combat the "bass vs. backseat" phenomenon? This is my first sedan and boy I miss having a hatchback!

TIA.

I feel you! I wanted to mount 8's and port them through the 6x9 holes, but built fiberglass boxes for 10's in the trunk instead. If you want to do anything with those 6x9 holes you may first need to convert those torsion bars to shocks. Then you might be able to do something with it. Good luck!!! Let us know how it goes.

First off, bandpass boxes work best when you think of them as tools to make small speakers sound bigger. When you try to make one for a 15, you run into serious problems, not the least of which is that with bandpass boxes, ALL the output has to fit out the portl. Every bandpass box has a point at which no more air will travel thorugh the ports without getting compressed, and at that point it doesn't get any louder. It does sound worse, though, because then the whooshing noises get worse and worse.

You are indeed experiencing the joys of sedan-hood. If youget some really good midbass up front, though, the fact that only the lowest sub-bass gets out of the trunk can help youhave great front stage.

But I'd get a 10 or 12 - sealed.
