Sub/Bass Thump upon turn on. Help please
Hey all....

I just installed my line driver for my system. Now, when I turn the car on the subs have a really loud "THUMP" before the music starts.
I thought maybe it's because both the line driver and the sub amp are running off the same remote but it didn't fix it when I gave them different remote wires.
Any ideas on a solution to that. It's annoying.
Thank you,
Jeremy.

Is is strange to have developed the issue though? The amp NEVER did it and I've been using it for 4 years now. It's been since I added the line driver. Maybe I need to give the line driver a dedicated remote turn on and my other 2 amps different ones.
The remote wire wouldn't make a difference, it just says whether the amp should be on, doesn't do any thing more than that. I recall my dad saying something about putting relays on the power going into the amp though, I think that this might have been his reasoning. Either way your remote wire shouldn't matter. What guage are you running?
What's going on is there's too much voltage somewhere. The surge of your car turning on shoots it straight to the amp. Luckily my amp has a "soft" turn on. you might want to also try turning down the line driver level.
I have heard diff things. Some say a bad ground. Some say the amp is turning on the same time as the hu causing the thump. Some say to much power at start up. And then others say u dont have a soft start up on the amp. Maybe run a switch for your
remote wire so you can turn it off and on. I have this done so when i don't wanna hear bass i can just listen to mids and highs.

Thank you guys...all good suggestions. I USED to have the remote tied into the OEM amp remote and did not have this problem. But this was also before having the line driver. If I run the amp with signal directly to the headunit and NO line driver the thump goes away.
For listening purposes I can turn off the sub from the OEM subwoofer "off" option. But For turn on, I'd like to find a solution that doesn't involve having to remember to turn it on and off (the remote switch that is)
I'm running 4AWG to the amps...and 1 to the dist. block.

Hmmm...pretty close, I must say. But you know what...I had this thump happen when I tried using a small aftermarket amp to boost signal to the real sub amp up front too...AND when I had the matrix line driver installed up front too.
That's why I thought it was remote wire related because it only started happening once i added the line driver and used the same remote wire for source signal. But who knows...I installed one of those PAC audio noise killers that allows ac voltage but not dc and it stopped it for now. I was just trying to figure it out because I never needed that in the past.
