Sub and Amp have power, no sound

Hey guys,

I got a little delimma with my sub and amp set up. I have an Alpine MRP M500 amp hooked up to a Alpine Type R 10 in sub. Both were bought last year so they're still in good condition.
One day I noticed that there was no sound coming out of the sub, so I checked all of to fuses and connections to the amp, all good. I also took the amp out and tested the connections with another amp, my buddy's Sony Xplod 600watt, still no sound.

Now I'm no sound guy; I just checked the obvious wires.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Steve

RCA in the back of your headunit? Sub might be blown?

Yep had this same issue and it bothered me like no tomorrow. It turned out that the main fuse on the battery was blown. However, when i took it out once or twice before putting a voltmeter on it, it looked completely fine... no burns no nothing. Check yours, hopefully you have the same $1 issue

Yeah I replaced the busted main fuse and replaced it about 2 weeks ago. The fuse still looks good, still no sound coming from the sub.

if the fuse was busted, then I hope the circuitry downstream is ok.

Like swllen_cu said. do you know your input signal is ok?
Perhaps connect a known working mp3 player as your source to the amp. If nothing, then a different speaker just for testing. If nothing, make sure all voltages at amp are ok, power, remote on signal.

This sounds silly, but is there a mute option on the amp?
Are there internal fuses in the amp? If so, that may need to be replaced.

Do you have a dmm? Then you can look for resistances, voltages, etc. at the amp and speaker.

Are there power lights on the amp? If so, are they on? If they are on, this means the fuse under the hood is good. If you know your buddies amp works in his car then you have narrowed it down to the wiring as has been mentioned, or the woofer itself. If it was easy for you to grab his amp and test it in your car, I would recommend bringing your sub to his car to test it in his system. If it works, you have a problem in your wiring. If it does not, you probably have a problem with the woofer.

Of course, with a meter you could test the speaker to make sure both the coils still read.

Good luck.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I think I have the same issue.. Every other speakers work finebut the sub doesn't make a sound. The power on the amp is green so I'm assuming the fuse is okay. I'm going to check the head unit today and see if the RCA connection is okay there.

Troubleshooting No Sound:

1.- Power to Amps (Check Conections) if OK Proceed, If NO POWER check conections and Grounds. Specially check the REMOTE by bridging +12V and REM with the main Power Cable to Eliminate HU Problem.

2.- RCAs (HU to AMP) If in doubt buy a RCA to Earphones conector and Plug an iPod or
MP3 Player If theres Sound your HU RCA downstream are Damaged, if NO SOUND Proceed:

3.- SUB! Ask a Buddy for another SUB conect it if theres Sound your SUB took a crap, If theres Sound Re-Check Solutions 1 and 2.

Hope it Helps.

A multimeter would have solved this issue in about a minute.
you can get them for as cheap as like 5 bucks.

Found the problem. The two wires inside the box that connect the sub to the box connectors are super thin. Well, one of them was fried. Got it switched out and we are back in business!
