Stock System with Another Amp
Stock System with Another Amp
I was wondering if anyone ran a second amp through the factory speakers to make it louder or if it can even be done. So far i understand that i can get a converter to add in subs while keeping the factory deck and steering wheel controls. The question is i dont want the subs to overpower and wanted a little more power in the mids without maybe having to rip out every speaker and such. Anyone able to do this and if so what parts did u need? Thanks everyone
Hey Matt...
The Bose system runs on a lower impediance than normal. The speakers are at a lower ohm and therefore will not work with a non-bose amp. What I would suggest is replacing the bose amp and bose speakers and running it off the stock headunit. That's your best solution if you want the interior to look stock.

Actually, the stock Bose speakers will work with an aftermarket amp. If you use regulated amps, i.e. JL Audio, it will be fine, otherwise, the amp will run hotter. Therefore, crappy amps (Boss, Profile, Jensen .... ) will not last long. BUT from the stock speakers apparent (paper cone), I would suggest replacing them with an aftermarket counterparts, even cheap aftermarket would sound a lot better than stock speakers. Good luck modding your audio system.
Thanks guys i have decided to rip out the entire speaker system less the headunit, already got my two old and reliable kicker 12 comps in a box made to fit, any ideas for some good interior speakers and the prices they normally run??

I agree that you should replace the Bose speakers and amp.
However, I would recommend getting a new head unit. If you are concerned with keeping the steering wheel controls - I was able to buy a module that connects to the steering wheel controls and uses the infrared sensor on my Pioneer head unit to control it - very nifty.
