Sound levels

So I just got done using a dB meter and my sound system pushed 102db, I know its really not much compared to others, but I looked up so info and hearing loss starts at 90db so I thought that was pretty impressive..

A buddy of mine has done 150+ on music... His car is pretty impressive. On1wheel and richardparker might recognize his username from ca and caco, it's Pioneer~Saturn. Another friend's truck does mid 50's as well...

Was the test with a db meter, or an actual Term Lab meter (the one used for competitions in dbdrag and bassrace comps.)?

It was done with a little handheld db meter, I also had my car full of shit when I did it so that prob muffled it a bit

Actually, depending on what's in the car, it's taking up volume (space). This generally increases the peak of the vehicle. Now, that being said, you have to have stuff that is made of some type of hard material, not cloth and that kind of thing. The cloth will absorb the SPL. With that being said, I burped a 138.3 yesterday with a whole car full of stuff, and probably 1200-1300w or so. Single 15, BXi-2407 (at 2 ohms), 3.5 cubic foot box tuned at 33hz with 60 sq inches of port are, Street B legal score. Not bad for no testing and tuning prior to the run...

Only pics i got, its retired now. Back n the day it had 16 Orion 15"s, then 16 Fosgate 15"s then changed it up for a demo for Fusion and now has 8 Fusion 15"s. Back in 98' it was featured in 1 of the car audio mags but right now cant remember which 1 it was.

Very nice... I could see that doing high 60s. I was doubting you there for a second, because there's an idiot on youtube with an S-10 claiming 160s, but that thing looks like it'd actually do it... I'm assuming the Orions it ran were HCCAs? If so, why the switch?

Ah, good call. I forgot about the shit Orion went through awhile back. Now they're "back" but the product is nowhere near the quality of the old school stuff. Their amps are rated at max watts, and the HCCA's don't take nearly the 9kws or whatever they used to.

Awesome, sounds good. I'm just wondering what type of enclosure it is. It kinda looks like that's a big port on the top of the box in the center, which would lead me to guess some type of 4th/6th order bp, but who knows... If you find any pics of any of the previous versions, feel free to post them up, I love looking at build logs for cars I could never afford. It's nice to see what guys with sponsorship money can do...

Yea its ported on top and bottom. The blow thru goes from roof to floor all the way back to the tailgate. Actually he did and paid for everything himself just used the money he made from the shop, then he got sponsored. Its got over 10,000 hrs in it, theres no body flex or window flex at all and its hitting super low.

I was moving at the time so yes it was pretty much all cloth, my clothes and pillows and stuff like that.

I am going to try it again this week sometime and I will let you know how it goes..
