Question Sirius Antenna Placement Ideas

Hi all -

I should be getting my Sirius Tuner and Terk Antenna in the mail today from Crutchfield ($55 total, since the tuner was free since I already own a Sirius-Ready Kenwood head-unit ).

Anyway, I am wondering where those of you that have Sirius or XM mounted the Antenna? On the roof, in the back deck, on the trunk, maybe somewhere else ? The antenna is UGLY as it is, but I definitely want to get the best possible signal.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks.

I have the same issue. I just plop it up on my room (thru the moonroof) when I want to listen to it. I have the Kenwood Here2Anywhere unit.

i have it mounted on the roof. there is just enough space around the rear window rubber trim to slide the wire between and down to the opening of the trunk

fsttyms1 - Sweet! I'll give that a shot - I wasn't quite sure how I would get it around the glass, but when I saw the wire with the antenna today I was quite pleased with its small size - hopefully that will work out for me.

Brian_C6 - do you just leave the antenna wire hanging loose from the tuner on the floor (or wherever) to the sunroof when you hook it up outside, or do you have it in such as way that you can just move it short distance ?

Thanks !

yea the wire is tiny enough to fit between. just use a small flat head screwdriver and a putty knife to wedge it between

I have it just hanging in my cabin. This is short term only. I'm probably going to perminately install it on my trunk lid... close to the rear window. Hopefully it looks ok. I'm going to cut all the plastic off (surrounding the wire near the end) and only have the square magnetic part on the trunk lid. I'll run all the wire through the trunk.

I'll take pics when I finish

I put my XM antenna on the rear platform behind the back seat. It stays in the car, so no inconvenience at the car wash, and the clean appearance of my roof and trunk are preserved. If you push it all the way against the window, on the inside of the car, you'll find that you get a clear signal all the time. I'll get some dropouts in mountainous areas, but these are brief- maybe 1 or 2 secs.
