Second Gen Double Din Dash kit

Are there no Second Gen Double Din dash kits on the market? Will I have to get one custom made, does anyone know how much it'll cost?

ya that will have to be custom...totally depends on you how much it will cost. I mean you can get a basic plastic on for like 30 bucks, but something that looks good will be more, but nothing real expensive.

Your looking at around $100-$150 for a custom fabricated kit.

Actually, a double din will bolt right to the factory brackets. All you need is a face plate or trim ring to fill in the gap. I just installed an Eclipse 7301 in my TL and just made a face plate for it.

Best I can do for now. Go to the link and scroll down. It is dark and the car is in the garage but, you get the idea.

Looks pretty good. My problem is that I have two single din HU'S, a clarion joyride and clarion vrx630, so I think it might be harder to install.

so let me get this straight, I can take out my stock HU and put in another double din HU and it will mount perfectly with no modification and all I will have to do is fill in the gaps. If so, that would be great, I been wanting a double din HU!

Yes, there are factory mounting holes that allowed me to mount my double din right to the brackets. Two screws per side of the unit. And then fill the gaps.

thanks a lot, I been wanting to get a double din in, but did not really want to spend money and have it professionally done. I think the double din looks great in the tl, rather then the single din. It kind of balances it out

On Wednesday next week I am getting two single din units installed into my TL. They are going to use a metra kit and just fabricate from that.

I will try and post some pictures.

From what I've seen, the cheaper kits don't match the OEM finish of the plastic. It's slightly off, IMO.

they dont, but you can wet sand it and hit it with some flat black spray paint and make it look 98% perfect.

single din - is just a regular cd player size...double is two of them or twice as tall. like some GM model radios.

no offense, but that looks bad... try getting aluminum or wood kit, it will look much better.

No offense taken but, I do not like the all wood or aluminum look.
