replacing stereo

Ok, I have searched the forum, but maybe am not putting the correct search terms in...I am trying to figure out how you make it look good when you replace the factory head unit of the stereo system. The slight angle inward from top to bottom is irregular, and I have been unable to find face plates to address this. I am looking at installing a single DIN unit. Really, the only reason I want to replace the thing is because it doesn't play CD-R's. I will miss the ability to control the volume on the steering wheel, but it is more important to me to be able to play the hundreds of CD-R's I have...

I play CD-R's all the time in my 02' stocker. Trying to eject them is sometimes a chore, but no problem playing them. What speed were they burned at? sometimes that can cause issues.

Mine is a 1999 stock radio, so that is probably part of the issue. The CD-R's have been burned from 8x to 52x, and they are Data CD-R's. But my library is huge, so replacing them with CD-R music CDs is not an option...

My radio will not play any cdr's unless they are the Maxell Music CDR's. They have a gold design on top. I noticed that only CDR's that have a bluish tint work in the Bose systems.
