remote wire

i unplugged the harness to the stock amp and tapped the 7 and 8 slot for input and 2 for remote. my amp wont turn on! :rocketwho should i run a new remote turn on and from where? i am keeping the stock headunit.

tap the ignition? (if so where/how?) tap the headunit? (how would this be different than where i spliced it from the back?

help!

haha nm i just used the fuse panel. the only thing i was thinking that would be better (or would it?) would be to tap the stock HU remote at the HU (if this would matter?) so it would turn the amp off whne the radio was off. oh well. anyone got any ideas or thoughts im all ears.

The factory head unit dosn't have a remote turn on wire lead as aftermarket decks do. I used the WHITE/RED wire behind the radio which is 12V switched with the ignition. It will turn your amp on and off as the car is turned on and off, but not with the radio.

well it does actually but its weak. i tested with multimeter and the orange(withgray) coming to the amp from headunit is switched power, but it wasnt enough. I tapped the fuse panel and used that instead it works nicely.

Yeah you right, there is a wire by the stock sub amp that I too measured around 9V. Not enough to turn on some amps. Which wire did you tap at the fusebox? Does it turn on/off with the radio?

actually at first i was getting 5v and ... wtf? so i rewired. then back at the amp i was testing and get 12v, but it wasn't turning the amp on. my buddy had this problem before so i just decided to run a separate remote and get it working.

on the back of the driver's side fuse panel there are 4 slots with male connectors. they are tough to find as you have to be looking from the center console area out the drivers side. they look like this: http://angrymob.net/car/gauges/IMG_2319.jpg

anyways, in that pic left is UP. those 4 (marked _, 2,3 and 5 or r,s,t,u) are the connectors.

r - power when running (i think)
s - when ACC (radio is on)
t - when lights are on (my gauges are plugged in here)
u - always on

so you can see, there are some fun ones to use there, alot cleaner and easier to get to and work like a charm.

you can use a spade connector or fork connector. it will slide over it. you should be able to pick them up at any autozone/advance auto parts or (insert your local car store here) they're crimp on and cheap.

just take em before you crimp and try and get them to stay on. i think i used red (or blue) i forget haha. i think actually.... that i have one red and one blue for something else. (as for size im not sure what the specific size is but the colors should indicate it)

plugging into the ACC is not the same as running a remote from the head unit. when you plug into the ACC, the amps won't turn off untill the key is turned off. Basically when ever the car is in ACC or run the amps will be on regardless of the radio.

I don't think anyone's been able to find a good wire to use for remote turn on. Everyone is hooked upto the ACC wire, and amp stays on even with the radio off.

steve, let us know if you find another connector that's 12V switched with the radio.

The guys at Directed Electronics make a Remote Power Adapter (p/n 55000) that sits on the speaker wires of the headunit/Amp and senses when a signal is resident. Then it sends out a remote turn on signal, as well as turn off signal. S/B $15-20.
