Post Remote Starter?

I stoped by the dealership today to turn in the acura survey. Anyways i asked our salesman how much a remote engine starter would cost and what namebrand it was. He said that he has a local shop do it for all his costumers and that his guy is "good". Well the namebrand is "A1 Security" and he said that they can put all the functions (disarm, arm, trunk release, engine starter, panic) in one remote. He also said that they have the best range, 500 ft. Has anybody heard of A1 Security and is 500ft good. He quoted us a price of $375 without installation. Opinions? Thanks!

PS. he said a moon roof visor was about $165, but he would sell it to me for $100. I have a friend at a honda dealership and was wondering if the moonroof visor for the accord will fit the TL. If it does i will save about $50.

I think there have been quite a few people who have installed aftermarket remote starters/all windows remote up/down/moonroof remote open/close etc. Check out the signatures of people and contact them through email or something and find out what it cost them.....I personally have not done it and have no idea of the costs. Anyone else ?

I have a Viper 550ESP alarm installed with remote start, all window roll up upon arm, front windows roll down via remote, 2-stage proximity sensor, trunk release and glass sensor. I love it! No problems at all, range is very good!
Just make sure the installation is good! That's very important!!!

The accord moonroof visor should fit the TL's.

Are you using the factory remote or do you have to use the Viper's remote?

Question

What do you guys think of the Direct Electronics (DEI) 551R remote starter (only)? I got it at Best Buy and installed ($150 total) it on my parents car. Seems to work nice, but the parents complain that the engine revs louder than before. Has anyone else experienced any side effects?

Thumbs up

I settled on an Astro Start 1105. It has all of the functions of the OEM remote, plus remote start and I also had them add an additional relay for the rear window defogger. Got an extra remotes, both very nicely designed, 1,400 foot range and life time warrenty on parts and labor for $314.00. No problems with the installation, excellent workmanship. Check out the web site: www.astroflex.com (the model 1105 is not posted, new for 2001. It has all of the functions of the Premium, except the audible alert, an LED shows activation). This is a Canadian manufactured unit, so I'm sure its built to with stand extreme climates.

I like the idea of a remote starter a lot (I live in the Boston area) however, I have friends who do installs for Tweeter, which is a mid-to high end CE store in the Boston area, and they say stay away from remote starters all together. There is a lot of electrical work involved and the potential for problems is high. Not to mention, you buy a $30K car and everything now counts on a couple hundred dollar remote starter. I am not trying to discourage you, however, make sure you go to reputable shop and don't let money be the only factor in choosing a starter and installation.

Just my thoughts. Good luck!

I'm using a Viper remote now! The only draw back that I really cared about is that I now can't unlock just the drivers door!

My range is good, not 2 miles like some others, more like 500+ feet. I'm happy with it.

Although my Viper alarm is not under factory warranty, the alarm itself AND the installation carry a lifetime warranty. Which I think is better!

I have the CompuStar 2000 remote starter. I have been very happy with this product. It has a 1/4 mile range, in fact when I press the start button just before I leave my apartment and it starts my car in the basement garage! It also has a pager system, when the car starts the units LCD display shows smoke coming out of the Car images exhaust (very cool). The alarm section will also page you if someone enters your car, opens door etc. Another cool feature is that you can set it up so that when yoo approach your car it automatically unlocks the doors and when you walk away the car doors are automatically locked. Overall a very impressive remote starter/security system.

there is a lot of electrical work? not really, the only difference between a non/remote start alarm and a remote start alarm is a few extra wires for the ignition, accessory, brake pedal and rpm tach wire. if you have installed a clifford g4 7000 or greater most likely you already have the tach wire installed for the black jax!

Question

Do they make a remote starter that will work with the memory seats. I like the idea of having only one remote, but I can not live without the memory seat activation on the Acura key fob.

Does anyone have recommendations on a reliable remote starter. I know all about Viper but I have to drive an hour and some change to the next place that carries Viper products. The one of two car system installation places where I'm stationed has this item called Astro Start...haven't heard of it and "seems" to be a decent...but just wanted to get some Acura owner opinons. =)
