i would say almost any 5 1/4 will fit with no problem.. you may need to make a spacer ring but it would not require cutting... as for 6 1/2 maybe the infinity 6002si (slim series i think that is the right model number..).. polk db's... but if you are looking for components that fit then maybe the focal poly k slim series...

I've been searching for this exact answer for some time. I forget who the person was, but he wrote an extensive thread on exact speaker size, mounting depth, etc.

After very extensive research, I found the perfect speaker. They are the 6.5" POLK DB650. They can be found at most high end stereo shops and also circuit city. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-t1qDgUp...asp?I=107DB650

I just completed the install last week and I did not have to cut or modify ANYTHING! Even the stock factory mounting basket remains completely stock! These are truly a direct drop in plug and play. The only thing you will need a wiring harness adaptor if you don't want to cut the factory harness and some longer mounting screws. I have heard the Infinity 6002i will work as well, but I have not tried them and cannot say for certain they are truly plug and play. I chose the POLKs because they had better bass response.

I wanted a speaker with a high sensitivity rating so as not to lose too much volume and found these POLKs where rated at 92dB. I am very pleased with the outcome, however the high notes will be a bit bright due to the factory equalizer over compensating for the crappy stock speakers. The bass response is much improved, as is the general sound quality. It no longer sounds like an clock radio!

So if understand correctly. Let's say if I wanted components in the front and reg. speakers in the back, for best fit and quality I can use 6.5" POLK DB650 in the back and use shawite focal components in the front? Would that work and shawite, What is the model for the focals because I can't find the one you are talking about?

Thanks

my bad it is the polyglass that has the slim series... the model number is the 165 V slim... but you are more than likely still going to need a spacer...

Yes! I just finished my install and they are excellent. I do recommend an amp, however. I put DB6500's all the way around. In the front, I mounted the tweeters on the triangle in front of the window. For the rears, I mounted them to the front of the stock speaker basket, behind the door panel, and cut a hole to let the sound through. You can't tell I changed the speakers at all. The mid-bass fit perfectly in the stock speaker basket with no modification other than drilling a hole to feed the cross-over wires through.

Bottom line, you don't have to cut any metal and the install is about as easy as components can get. ...and they can handle a lot of power should you throw it at them.

Polk db6500 at crutchfield

First, here is my post fresh after the install
http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=18

second, to answer your question, I got the polks from crutchfield. They still have a special on Polk. Buy one pair, get the second half off. That's why I went components all the way around. The back doors install so easy that I am really gald I did. It sounds so much better already and I haven't yet installed the amps.

My referral code (all crutchfield customers get one) is pth03-ss894-5piq7. You will get an additional $20 off (and I get $20 off my next purchase).

So total is (199 + (199/2) -20) $280 for all four. You can get the db650 in the rear and save $50. (free ship)

yes, components front and rear

Now, as for amplfiers, shop around. Deals everywhere but don't last long. SoundDomain.com was the best. For wires (interconnects), use Buy.com.

InfiniteCarAudio.com had some great stuff and awesome prices.

Everything is here except I am still waiting on my sub ;>( backordered...

The metra kit is at HiFi buys. sand the face to match color better.

THere you be

This might be asking alot, but I am going to order the db6500 front & db650 rear from c.field. I need to know what tools I need for a diy for a 99tl. What tools i need, how do i do it and the process for the installation. Also if you know any diy that i can look at.

I checked them out. They fit the front but not the back.
What you think about the MMC650?

I think you are wrong. I am no audio tech freak, but from what I have heard from audio experts the rear are more difficult to install and the mounting depts are smaller. I even called crutchfield and they said the same thing. Don't get me wrong the db650/6500 will fit the rear but they are no drop ins, yuh know. Yuh must do some alterations. I want to upgrade from stock, but do not want to f-up my car and mess up the resale value.

Well I think that I might get the db6500 all around, if you interested I found a better buy than at crutchfield, check out the link below $125 a pair

http://store.thestereohouse.com/db6500-.html

The only thing I do not know if to buy them and put them down, because I am not ready yet to install them. I am still doing research on a complete stereo diy.

I need to know the diy's , parts (eg.harnesses, wiring) and tools needed for>>>>

db6500 components all around
800 watt 4 channel amp
2 12 inch subs sealed box
600 watt 2 channel amp

still needed >>>

solutions for i-pod(or equiv) install
Blitzsafe adapter
pd4 adapter

"resale value" seriously, all you have to do is a little cutting, no big deal, not going to hurt anything - only help.
