Valentine or the Escort 8500.
Both are great and will protect you.

valentine is certainly one of the highest quality detectors on the market. watch out for your pocket though. the 1.8 is kinda of pricey.

300 or so on eBay for a v1 or new for about 400...if it saves you from one big ticket its probably worth it if you count the fine, points on your license, insurance...

I have an 8500.... Used to have a V1.... Just now upgrading to the Escort SR7.... All will keep you from getting a lot of tickets, but the V1 falsed a lot.... I don't need to hear about X band....

Why is it that there are so many x band signals out there, I live in boston and my 7500 has many falses for X band and usually its a full alarm too? Where does all this X band come from?

Store door openers are the main source. If you pass alot of older stores that have automatic doors. The newer built ones in the last 2 years use K band now. Alarm motion sensors are another source. Again lots of older units use X band.

So are garage Door Openers, Burger King Microwaves.... There's lots of X. My problem with the V1 was that it decided that certain X bands would register as K bands. I could turn X on, and have it go X with my Garage door, and a shopping center near my house. Then turn it off, and now both registered K, but neither came up with my 8500.... By the way, you can turn X off in the 7500, and you would more range from the V1 or the 8500....

Does anyone know whether Cali uses X band? I wanted to be certain before turning it off in my 8500. Btw, I did get a ticket last october, my first one, while using the 8500. I'm still convinced the cop didn't use a radar.

don't the warranties and gaurantees say that if you get a ticket while using it, the companies will pay for it?

The nearest place that still has X banc, according to Escort, is Ohio.... I've had mine off for a long time, and not issues...

I had one. It is worthless. Only way I would get one now is for about $20 and that's just as my backup.

I recomend the K40 system. Not the sit on your dash removable kind, but the undetectable hidden kind. It's pricey, but well worth it and it looks great in the car with only little leds to mount.

I had the K40 dash model before, & that did not work well. K40 is one comany that pays the ticket you get, but there are limits. The only speeding ticket I got was with the K40. & they didn't pay it cause it was 32MPH over the limit.

They Escort 8500 and Valentine are in a class by themselves, everything else is a waste of money, including the K40.

The k40 has saved me 4 times in my Markviii and 3 times in this car. I have not had a speeding ticket in 7years now and I go over the speed limit all the time whether it be slightly or alot. I also just love how stealthy it looks. Theres nothing that beats it's versatility when mounting is a consideration. Thats just my opinion though, which is very exclusive considering almost everyone has the V1

Here's another Bel 985 user - and it's worked very well for the 4 years I've had it so far.

Either one is great. They are always saying they are # 1. I have the Escort 8500 but the V1 is great too

Got to say I have had very good luck with the Whistler remote products. I have had 4 of them (one in each vette, grand cherokee and now one in the CL). The price is decent and it works very well. And the remote is very trick looking.

I have no idea how the dash mounted stuff is - seem to be crap, but I have been very pleased with my remote. I looked at the Passport remote, but was a little bit too much $. I like the fact it is hidden from both cops and theives.

"discriminatory right"....they can eye-ball you and give you a ticket. Their 'training' will hold up in court depending on the judge. They basically have the authority to give you a ticket if they dont like the shirt you're wearing. It wouldnt hold up of course, but they still have the authority to do it.

Crazy stuff man....

I have a Bel 985 as well, I love it. It's picked off police that were litterally behind a bush, OVER A HILL. I immediately took my detector off of the dashbard and kissed it. It does screen out false signals well too.

PS: I've never used a Valantine, but it is probably one of the best out there. One missed ticket and it's paid for.

i have a pos cobra. i paid $20 for it from a guy in a salvage rice rocket he fixed by himself with a hammer. i got it to hold me out while i save for a V1. this works ok but misses a lot. like when cops are passing in front of me when im at a red light - i dont pick it up when my friends (v1 and bel something) do. but it seems to work half the time so i guess its better than nothing.

my point?
dont spend too much money if you're gonna get something inferior to a v1 or passport 8500. if you do, it'll just take longer to save cuz you'll want one of them in the end
