Quick + and - speaker wire question
how do you indentify the postive and negative on a speaker wire - I got my system professionally installed today and I decided to move one of my amps to mount on my back seat, but when I disconnected everything I forgot to mark which speaker wire is + and which is -.
How can I check? Is it safe to just hook it up and listen to it (i figure if its backwards, no sound would come out)?
I can't do the AA battery method because the speakers are behind doors so I can't exactly watch the cone move
Installer also isn't answering his email and I'd like to fix this tonight, thanks

i did a search and it said if its wired backwards, it'll be out of phase and could hurt the speakers, but I can't exactly tell since I can't see the speakers itself!
the sound will end up messed up but theres no real damage to the speaker, people run their subs at reverse phase all the time, its just moving the opposite way than usual (pulling when it should be pushing).... it might hurt the tweeters, but i think its safe..... either way, try one, listen, and try the other and listen to that, pick the one that sounds better and proper to you

figured it out, digged around looking for where he mounted the the crossovers and got the hint off that.
Paid 250 for 4 doors + metal cutting + spacers + speaker wires + 6hrs of labor and I told em I'd do the trunk myself to cut off an hour of $$$
. Took me an hr 1/2. 1/2 hour trying to mount MDF to the back seats, but couldn't get it to work so i jst said screw it and mounted it to the box. here's the results
note: shorter RCA shipping to me, gonna hook that up before i tie up all the wires back there - can't see them anyways when the seat is up.

and a little finishing touch

nevermind, just looked you up and found what you're running. how do you like it so far? how is that sub?

the sub is a great bang for the buck, I actually have a brand new one laying here in my room never opened with 7 months of warranty left on it, I was gonna hook that up too but can't exactly afford a bigger amp + box + bigger power wires etc.
At first I had this sub hooked up to a alpine mrd-m605 & thru LOC of the back 6x9's on stock speakers and it sounded pretty good. but aftermarket speakers and amp makes a huge difference. Only reason i switched to JL amps is cuz of the balanced diff. output shit thats required for mercmans harness (great harness btw). If you're going to add a sub in the trunk i'd suggest disconnecting the rear 6x9's and removing them, adds some more venting into the cabin and you feel more bass

think i blew my subs today =(. they were workin fine before i went to school, as i was leaving i noticed it wasn't slappin as loud, then 5 minutes into the drive i started to smell something so i was just thinking it was the box since i havnt used it ina few weeks. I get home, open my trunk, and theres smoke coming out of my box.
the sub still works but it sounds like sh*t and makes some weird noises. blown voicecoils? blown sub? does warranty cover this?
this is an alpine type R

too lazy to go back to the shop + gas ;x. Just gonna send it to alpine for warranty which would prolly what they would tell me to do anyway.
Meanwhile, I popped the brand new type r thats been sitting in my room for the past 4 months in the trunk, and it seems alot louder than the one that just pooped on me, and i havnt even touched the settings. No problems yet

The positive usually has some writing on it.
