Questions about audio setup

I am looking into getting a decent audio setup. What i have planned now is 2 12" 1200 watt sony xplods. i was looking to put 1 1000 watt sony xplod amp. is this going to be enough to support both subs? and can it be easily wired to a stock 2nd gen cl headunit? thanks alot!!!

Ok just wondering why your choosing that set up. Maybe the cost factor? Because there is so much better btands. But if your finding it cheap

Sony xplods are junk. Don't waste your money, unless you're buying a whole shitload of them (Big Oki style, for those that know or know of Oki).

that's their peak wattage. you need to find out the RMS of the subs and the RMS of the amp your looking to by and how many ohms it'll run at.

Please do not give advise when you yourself have no clue.

Op why are you choosing the said items? DO you already have them, getting from a friend, or really cheap?

Well, seeing as subs don't "put out" an rms number, I'd say you answered your own question...

They may say they can handle 1200 but i bet if i put that much clean power to them from a good amp they will cook quick. Op needs to answer why he chose the audio. Or just lock it up. Seems like another wasteful thread from another newb

Sony makes decent home stereo stuff but the car audio is junk. Also I would never suggest running subs from the speaker line input just buy a decent head unit because the distortion is unbearable. Pioneer is the way to go for a cheap head unit of good quality.

I did not say great I said decent. I don't think Denon, Onkia and Yamaha are on the same level as Sony. I would compare them more to Kenwood and Pioneer.

Hey guys, this is one of the funniest threads I've read in a long time. Sony makes cool Begginers Type product. Some people arent aware of the different levels of audio equipment for home. Imagine the ignorance for automotive audio. The are startstruck by the Sony name after they got a nice camera or a PS3. Educate MIKE8898...dont talk down to him. If you noticed...he never answered his own thread.

Hey guys, this might be the wrong place to ask this question and their might be an existing thread dealing with this (if there is please direct me to it). I want to know if I install a double din in my car ('01 TL) will I still be able to use the factory sub? I really don't want to lose it.

Pioneer makes quality decks; I am an ardent JL Audio fan for subwoofers and amplifiers.
My system: Pioneer Premier DEH P880 PRS (soon to be running active crossovers/ time alignment to my custom built front stage) Pioneer external CD IB100II iPod controller, JL 300/4 and 1000/1 amp section, Kinetik HC800 sealed power cell, JL C5 component set, JL 13W7 in JL sealed enclosure: MAGIC!

The 880's nice, just watch the Pico fuse. Everything else sounds like a huge waste of money...

I have owned Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, and Alpine radios. Pioneer by far is cleaner in sound quality. I an now running the DEH P980 Pioneer deck. I love the sound but realized what a pain it is to keep switching the audio settings with different MP3 songs. Still cleaner by far than the other brands. It does not have the IPod hookup but i added a IPod dock with on screen display thru the NAV. I still really dont use it. Use my Droid Phone thru BT for MP3s or stream Pandora. Killer radio.

i wouldnt go with sony subs. they dont sound that good. i have a pair of mtx terminator 1200 watt subs that sound much better than sony. i payed 300 $ for them with a 400 watt amp and put a 1200 watt audiobahn amp on them and they sound great. i would try mtx subs. with maybe a power acoustik amp.

I have been Installing on and off for the past 6 years and have been working at a large custom shop full time for the past two. I have installed just about all the brands. Sony stuff is junk. Im not a big fan of pioneer HUs and ive owned many over the years. The guy who said the JL stuff is a waste of money is full of it. That W7 will beat harder and cleaner than any other sub on the market. The 1000/1 is one of the top ten nicest amps ive ever installed.

S10, you've obviously never touched anything not sold in your typical store... The W7 is a nice sub, if it were sold at 1/4-1/3 of it's actual cost. You can get the same "beat" from subs at a whole lot less money. Same thing with the 1000/1 amps...

I'll take that challenge S-10.

While I can definitely appreciate JL's prowess, they are not mythical in their performance, especially in clarity.

I too used to sell all sorts of brands (Alpine, JBL, Infinity, MTX, PPI, Pioneer, Sony, RF, Diamond, Eclipse, DEI, Phoenix Gold, Kenwood, Denon, Zapco, and it just does on endlessly....) and I can definitely say that it has been the brands I have NOT sold that are the most profoundly capable. I have found Acoustic Elegance to be the absolute king of sound quality (for subs, the primary discussion at hand here as most of us can agree that amps really do sound the same given all else is equal), and the king of SPL is more variant on the box, not the sub itself. For instance, we could just install more AE subs and voila, SPL galore.

Runners-up in sound quality (you defined this as clarity) to the AE subs would be Blueprint, Lanzar Sabre (yep!), Eclipse, and Stereo Integrity.

All I can say is that the more I experience in the field of audio, the more I find spectacular brands (including "unknowns".)
