Post Question about box?

Would u guys recomend me to put my 3 12" solobaric square subs in a sealed box? What would be the benefits? I really want to get the maximum bass possible.
Also I heard something about a ported box, have no idea what that is? Does somebody know? Thanx

There are three main types of boxes one can get....ported, sealed, and bandpass. Sealed being the best for SQ, ported second best, and bandpass worst. But, bandpass will shake the most, ported will give the best of both worlds (imo), and sealed will give you thump. for 3...i'd either go sealed or ported. Not too many good bandpass sealed cabs.

If you really want pounding bass, get the Orion HCCA 15" and the Orion bandpass box. That thing is so efficient that you'll go deaf even if you only run 100watts.

So having my speakers in a regular box with no closure is not good? Are there any benefits to not having an enclosure? Sorry about all the questions, just that i don't know jack shit about systems and have wasted a lot of money in this system

you have the opening where the stock woofer sits, that is a perfect place for a port. by porting the box into the car you get a cleaner "hit" inside the car. i can turn up the volume and my trunk will not rattle b/c all the bass is going inside the car. if you have a sealed box all the bass will be trapped inside the trunk.
my .02 cents

Usually a sealed box is the smallest of the three box type. It gives you tight and accurate bass. Ported Box are bigger, but will make your bass sound alot louder than the sealed, however you'll lose the tight bass for lagging bass. The bandpass box is a combination of a sealed and ported box. It would give you a little of both type of bass. It all depends on what type of bass you like.

I have 2 solobaric 12 in a sealed box, in the trunk of my stealth. I'm running a 500 watt phex/gold amp to them. I also like rap and hip hop... sounds good. Main reason for the sealed box was because I have very very small trunk. Each box is only.66 cubic feet of air space.

If I were you I would recommend the ported box simply because you will get much more bass even with a smaller amp, than you would with a sealed box. You will lose a little sound quality with the ported box, but for rap it's IMO the best of both worlds. Ultimately the decision is yours and I would recommed your hear a sealed sys, a ported sys, and a bandpass sys and decide for yourself what is best for you!
